In this 1998 decision, Fried Siegel Co., LPA (now Siegel Jennings - Property Tax Law) argued and won a case proving that a recent sale price was not the best evidence of value. At the time of the decision, the sale price was often the start and end of any discussion regarding a property’s value. In this case, Siegel Jennings argued the buyer’s compelling business motivations rebutted the presumption that the sale price represented fair market value. Bd. of Educ. of the Gahanna-Jefferson Pub. Schs v. Franklin Cty. Bd. of Revision, No. 98AP-460, 1998 Ohio App. LEXIS 6373 (Ct. App. Dec. 31, 1998). Now in its 50th year, Siegel Jennings continues to strive for common sense changes to laws that are applied too rigidly to advance fair and equitable tax treatment for all taxpayers.

Kristin recently joined the Siegel Jennings team as a Legal Assistant in our Chicago office. Kristin Smedley attended George Washington University’s Paralegal Studies Program and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology in Archiving and Cataloging from the University of Minnesota. Kristin previously worked for Federated Mutual Insurance Company, most recently as a Paralegal in the Corporate Legal Department. For a fun fact, Kristin shared that while studying abroad in London in 2009 she was a teaching assistant for an after-school program that educated 4th graders about soldiers from World War I. One of the students in her class was the son of former Prime Minister Tony Blair. Welcome to the team, Kristin!
