  • History often repeats itself. Just like the early electric vehicles of the 1880s, new technologies need the perfect combination of timing, problem-solving and superior performance to truly succeed. Today, we're witnessing that with the resurgence of EVs. But innovation doesn't come without challenges. Electric vehicles, particularly their batteries and e-motors, demand cutting-edge solutions. This is where advanced engineering simulation, specifically hybrid multiphase modeling, comes into play. Consider e-motor cooling: a complex dance of oil jets, droplet breakup, thin films and intricate heat transfer. Traditional simulation tools fall short, unable to capture the full spectrum of multiphase regimes. That's why we're excited to introduce the latest advancements in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ 2406, featuring hybrid multiphase with Mixture Multiphase at its core. We're talking: 💦 Lagrangian to Mixture Multiphase sub-grid transition: Seamlessly transitioning from resolved droplets to dispersed mixtures, capturing the full cascade of multiphase scales. 💦 Population balance modeling for MMP-LSI: Accurately predicting droplet size distributions, crucial for understanding evaporation and reactions. 💦 Lagrangian impingement into MMP continuous phase: Enabling realistic simulations of droplet interactions with larger fluid bodies. These features allow us to tackle complex applications like e-motor cooling with unprecedented accuracy and affordability. Imagine simulating oil jet cooling with adaptive mesh, Lagrangian tracking, S-Gamma droplet distribution modeling and fluid film interaction – all on a laptop! #Engineering #Simulation #ElectricVehicles #EV #CFD #ComputationalFluidDynamics

  • Can a beloved relic of early aviation still fly today? That was the question faced by aircraft manufacturer Junkers when its iconic Ju 52 tri-motor plane, known for reliable and stable transport since 1932, was grounded in 2018 for major upgrades. From paper, pencils and slide rulers to modern design tools, the Swiss engineering firm AeroFEM GmbH jumped at the opportunity to show the airworthiness of a modern-day Ju 52 replica using our NX software and Simcenter STAR-CCM+ software. Read our new case study to learn more about how their team launched the Ju 52 back into the sky 🛫 using: ✔️ Reverse engineering tools ✔️ Comprehensive simulations and analysis ✔️3D models of the aircraft (check out the images at the link! 🖼️🛩️) Get the link in the comments. 🔗 #AerospaceEngineering #Simulation #Aviation #Engineering #DigitalTransformation

  • Some exciting news from our global universe of partners: our PAVE360 technology for software defined vehicle (SDV) development is now available on AMD Radeon™ PRO V710 GPUs and AMD EPYC™ CPUs running on Azure, Microsoft’s cloud and AI platform. “We're excited to collaborate with Microsoft and AMD. We recognize that our customers have a preference in cloud platforms and associated hardware resources when deploying development platforms for SDV,” said David Fritz, our vice president, Hybrid and Virtual Systems. “With PAVE360 recognized as key enabler for SDV development, extending our support to Microsoft Azure and AMD hardware gives our customers greater flexibility.” In many instances software, hardware and system defects are not found until late in the design cycle or, worse still, when the fleet is deployed resulting in costly recalls and potentially significant brand damage. A system-aware approach to SDV validation helps to uncover these defects early in the modelling and simulation phase at which point many thousands of virtual scenarios can be run to isolate corner cases that otherwise would be missed. With the support of industry leaders such as Microsoft and AMD, Siemens brings system-aware SDV validation to the forefront with PAVE360.
