About us

At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees. Please view www.sierraclub.org/careers/ for more information.

June 30, 2024, could’ve been a milestone date in the annals of American city planning. That was the date that New York City was supposed to launch the first-ever congestion pricing plan in the US. It didn’t happen. Instead, Governor Kathy Hochul put the plan on pause indefinitely. Now, several environmental groups and the City Club of New York have filed two new lawsuits against Governor Hochul. ✍️ Joanna Thompson 📷 Alexander Spatari https://bit.ly/4dBzxSn

Join us for a livestream unveiling new research from Greenpeace & Sierra Club on the devastating health impacts of fracked methane gas export terminals (LNG). From premature deaths to billion-dollar health costs, we’ll trace the threads connecting these dirty fossil fuel infrastructures to our most vulnerable communities on the front lines of fracking, as well as the federal policies that would expedite expansion of LNG exports. RSVP now to learn together, and at the end, we'll take collective action to stop the expansion of these projects! Speakers will include: John Beard (Founder and CEO, Port Arthur Community Action Network) Johanna Heureaux-Torres (Energy Campaign Analyst, Sierra Club) Andres Chang (Senior Research Specialist, Greenpeace USA) Claire Dorner (Associate Director of Legislative & Administrative Advocacy, Sierra Club)

"There is a myth that solving the world’s most critical and overarching problem—the climate crisis—must be all about sacrifice as opposed to widespread economic gain," Ben Jealous, the Sierra Club's executive director, writes in his latest column. "But it is a reminder to beware conventional wisdom pushed by fossil fuel interests over basic common sense and what we see right in front of us." ✍️ @benjealous https://bit.ly/3BEBVdt

Despite Asheville’s reputation as a “climate haven,” Hurricane Helene has shown us that no community is safe from the growing impacts of climate change. Severe flooding devastated local businesses, homes, and infrastructure, leaving the beloved town reeling. There’s no "away" from climate change—it's here. There is no "away" on a storm-tossed planet, as Asheville reporter Jessica Wakeman reports for @sierramagazine https://bit.ly/3ZMvFdF

Celebrated National Public Lands Day with some trail clearing at Deadhorse. Had the pleasure of spending the morning with and learning from volunteers and the Santa Monica Mountains Task Force, a branch of the Los Angeles chapter of Sierra club. Thank you, Officer G.
