The green transition is here, but renters are at risk of being left behind. Without strong tenant protections, they could face higher rents or eviction from energy upgrades. Check out @SierraClub & @cplusci’s new policy primer to learn more 🔗 https://bit.ly/4gUdpp7
About us
At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees. Please view www.sierraclub.org/careers/ for more information.

The role of major banks is critical for ensuring a sustainable future, as the world aims for net-zero by 2050. We cannot solve the climate crisis if they continue with business-as-usual. Unfortunately, the largest US banks – JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citi, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley – still have substantial gaps in implementing their own climate commitments, and stronger action is urgently needed. Key areas for improvement include: 1️⃣ Improving 2030 targets: Expand sectoral emissions targets beyond lending to cover underwriting, and focus on absolute emissions reductions aligned with a 1.5°C pathway. 2️⃣ Strengthening exclusion policies: Go beyond project finance—phase out corporate-level finance for companies expanding fossil fuels. 3️⃣ Enhancing transparency: Banks must provide clearer, more comprehensive disclosures of their emissions and transition plans to back up their net-zero promises. The time for bold, transparent action is now. Financial institutions must act to ensure they are truly part of the solution. Learn more about how banks can make real progress toward net-zero in the report. https://lnkd.in/eyYFa5Qi

Sierra Club reposted this
A new Sierra Club report released today shows that all six major US banks — JPMorganChase, Bank of America, Citi, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley — are falling short in implementing best practices for interim emissions targets, exclusion policies, and disclosures to demonstrate alignment with their commitments to net-zero emissions by 2050. Read it here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eQvq58-J Despite some relative bright spots, across the board, all six major US banks are significant laggards when compared to global best practices and international counterparts. The major US banks have serious improvements to make to demonstrate credible progress toward their net-zero goals. Recommendations in the report include: 1️⃣ Improving 2030 targets by expanding sectoral emissions targets beyond lending to cover underwriting and focusing on absolute emissions reductions aligned with a 1.5°C pathway. 2️⃣ Strengthening exclusion policies to exclude corporate-level financing for companies expanding fossil fuels. 3️⃣ Enhancing transparency by ensuring banks provide more comprehensive disclosures of their emissions and transition plans to back up commitments. For all of us who love the outdoors, there was likely a first eye-opening experience with nature that sparked our interest. Sierra Club works to make sure that children and youth get the opportunity to have those experiences. This summer, Detroit Outdoors took a group of Detroit high school students to Yosemite National Park. There they spent time with Ranger Shelton Johnson – also from Detroit – along with Full Circle Everest’s Phil Henderson to explore the park, learn more about its history, hike, climb, and share in the joy outdoors together.

June 30, 2024, could’ve been a milestone date in the annals of American city planning. That was the date that New York City was supposed to launch the first-ever congestion pricing plan in the US. It didn’t happen. Instead, Governor Kathy Hochul put the plan on pause indefinitely. Now, several environmental groups and the City Club of New York have filed two new lawsuits against Governor Hochul. ✍️ Joanna Thompson 📷 Alexander Spatari https://bit.ly/4dBzxSn
