This post highlights the significant impact of Electric Vehicles (EVs) on the automotive industry. The Year-over-Year (YoY) growth of EVs presents new technological opportunities, especially for EVs equipped with dual powered axles. The ability to disconnect an axle to enhance efficiency can lead to substantial improvements, potentially increasing range by 5 to 8%. The rise of EVs is not just a trend but a permanent shift, creating a billion-dollar industry globally for DISCO technologies. In this landscape, companies that excel in providing cost-effective and reliable DISCO (disconnecting axle technology) solutions stand to dominate the market. Sigma Powertrain is at the forefront, offering licenses for what they consider the top-tier DISCO solution available. The future of EV technology lies in innovative solutions like the DISCO, which can revolutionize efficiency and performance in electric vehicles. Sigma Powertrain's commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions positions them as a key player in shaping the future of EV propulsion systems. Explore why their DISCO solution could be the game-changer the industry needs.

Sigma Powertrain's disconnect clutch technology can help you gain 5%+ efficiency in your powertrain for an extremely low cost. The case For a Disconnect e-clutch for dual powered axle applications The technology in Sigma's powertrains can be repurposed into driveline components. The Sigma Powertrain disconnect clutch (DISCO) if a perfect example of flexing Sigma’s linear actuator technology we use in the EMAX and MID transmission products into driveline. Sigma’s DISCO is one of the lowest cost options available in the marketplace. The DISCO has extreme power density, so much so it can package in the knuckle of a wheel end, inside differential, or gearbox. The actuator is co-axial meaning no bulky or expensive shift folks, stepper motors, worm screws, guide rods, mechanical diodes. SPT’s bi-stable magnet solution is not subjected to centrifugal force and impact loads. Our solution is contactless and solid state. Sigma’s entire DISCO sized for an F-150, Silverado 1500, or RAM 1500 weighs less than 1 kg (2.1 lbs.) Assuming a 300 mile range, battery cost at $100/kWh, Battery weight of 25kg/kWh, 3 miles/kWh fuel economy and using a single DISCO, how exactly does the SPT DISCO benefit the OEM using dual powered e-Axles? The ability to disconnect a powered axle on demand is good for a 5 to 7% efficiency increase over baseline. With these assumptions , Sigma’s DISCO would increase range up to 21 more miles. The tables above show the options to get that same 21 miles and why Sigma Powertrains option is the clear choice.
