Why startups should prioritize developer relations as early as possible: The magic moment that elevates startups into household names is often not traditional product marketing but the “aha moment” when developers realize how great your product is. They pass it along to their team, management adopts it, spreads the word across the industry, and the virtuous cycle blossoms. Why are developers specifically the ones who kick off this process? Because they tell it like it is and are hard to please. Imagine the toughest movie critic you know saying “you HAVE to watch this movie.” DevRel is not as costly and time-consuming as you think. Unlike mass marketing campaigns, it’s best to target highly engaged niche groups and early adopters and work with them a la focus groups. DevRel is how you create a community. When developers are involved in product development and problem-solving, they are more likely to advocate for you help you improve your product. There’s a lot to worry about when building a business. But it’s simpler than you might assume to prioritize developer relations, even for nontechnical founders. How? Check out our head of developer community Jarod Reyes‎’ blog in our comments and read his guidance on how to unlock the “aha” moment that could take your developer experience to the next level. #devrel #startups

Wow. Super excited to share that SignalFire's State Of Talent report just won PRNEWS' B2B PR Campaign Of The Year award! With help from our awesome PR agency Bospar, it was featured in The Wall Street Journal print edition, Axios, Forbes, and more. Top findings from the report (link in comments) included: -Silicon Valley has the most AI talent by far -NYC won the most post-pandemic relocating tech talent -Gen Z workers switch jobs 2x faster than those in Gen X -Data Engineer is the fastest emerging new job title One of the coolest parts of leading PR strategy for SignalFire alongside investing is getting to use our Beacon AI system. We've been building it for a decade to help us source portfolio companies and support their recruiting. Now we're using it to create data-driven content on talent trends you can't find anywhere else. A huge thanks to Curtis Sparrer and Bospar for bringing how we help founders to the world, Asher Bantock and Heather Doshay for the research behind the report, and the whole SignalFire team for building and refining Beacon.

📣 SignalFire is super excited to announce our Series B investment in Centaur Labs today in partnership with Wesley Yiu @ Alumni Ventures, Stan Reiss Matrix, Derick En'Wezoh, MBA @ Susa Ventures, Accel and Samsung Next! 📣 Imagine a turbocharged race car sitting idle at the track because the pit crew can’t find the right gas to fill it. That’s what the healthcare AI field feels like right now. Billions of dollars are being spent on companies led by the brightest minds in the world, yet their AI programs are struggling because they don’t have the right fuel. ✨ The missing fuel? Data, which is used to train and improve AI algorithms of all kinds. In healthcare, the problem isn’t lack of data—just the opposite. The average hospital produces enough data to fill about 70 million books every day. The problem is most of the information is bad or unusable, and in healthcare the stakes are too high to use anything but top-tier data. Centaur Labs, led by MIT PhD Erik Duhaime, Zach Rausnitz, and Tom Gellatly provides healthcare companies with accurate data they can use to create AI tools faster, more accurately, and for less money. Centaur uses a gamified app to attract tens of thousands of medical experts from around the globe who compete for cash prizes while annotating anonymized patient data on a HIPAA-compliant app. Because every piece of data is looked at by multiple experts, it’s like getting a second or third opinion on everything at a fraction of the cost. Centaur Labs is the latest company in our XIR program, which pairs deeply experienced tech industry leaders with high-potential companies. In this case, Erik is teaming up with former Privia Health Co-Founder & CEO Jeff Butler! 🙌 #healthtech #healthcareAI #healthcaredata Adele English Chris Scoggins

Today on the blog, SignalFire’s Head of Developer Community Jarod Reyes shares key learnings for driving devrel success for early stage startups. Read more via the link in comments:

Early-stage founders, are you struggling to win over developers and build your product with their input? Here's a key insight: focus on the "aha moment" in your developer experience. This is when users first interact with your product and realize its value. For Twilio, it was when developers wrote code and received a text message. For Auth0, it was when engineers first reloaded their app and it magically had a login flow. To reach this crucial point: 1. Integrate developer relations into your core marketing strategy. 2. Create bite-sized tutorials guiding developers to the aha moment quickly. 3. Host micro-experiments like hackathons and closed beta tests. 4. Co-create your product with developers, involving them in the roadmap. 5. Target specific sub-communities aligned with your offering. Remember, early-stage developer relations is a lot like product marketing mixed with real-time feedback. Every touchpoint should deliver value and help developers reach that aha moment. Measure success through product metrics like time to first success and conversion rates. Use these insights to improve your developer experience and drive growth. If this is interesting to you, I wrote a much longer piece on it over at our SignalFire blog. You can find a link to the full post in the comments. #DeveloperRelations #EarlyStageStartups #ProductDevelopment
