Protecting Hearts. Saving Lives.

About us

Simon's Heart was founded in 2005 in memory of Simon Sudman. He was three month's old when he died. The family was encouraged to get their hearts checked because "babies just don't die." Phyllis, Simon's mom, was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome, an arrhythmia that is linked to up to 15% of all SIDS deaths. It is also one of several conditions that take the lives of thousands of children every year. Sudden cardiac arrest is not just an adult thing. It is the #1 cause of death of student athletes. Simon's Heart prevents sudden cardiac arrest through a variety of preventative, protective and legislative lifesaving initiatives.

20,000th Heart Screened! We had an amazing Simon’s Heart Protect This Heart Screening at Methacton High School! We’re so grateful to everyone who came out and helped make this event a huge success. Thanks to our incredible volunteers, medical staff, and community partners, we were able to screen dozens of young hearts and raise awareness about the importance of heart health in youth. Your support helps us continue to protect young hearts and prevent sudden cardiac arrest. Let’s keep the momentum going—together, we can save lives. ❤️ #ProtectThisHeart #SCAAwareness #SimonsHeart #CPRJukebox #GotAED #ThankYou Methacton School District

As we watch other twenty-year-olds navigate new opportunities, Simon's legacy shines in a different way. Through Simon's Heart, we work tirelessly to prevent sudden cardiac arrest in young people. Though Simon never had the chance for an internship, his memory funds two cardiology fellowships each year and inspires countless connections. Over the past twenty years, we’ve built meaningful partnerships with medical institutions, companies, schools, and lawmakers, all in Simon’s name. Our traditions have evolved. Instead of blowing out candles, we now protect hearts and save lives. This is how we honor you, Simon and keep your memory alive. Happy Birthday, Simon. We look forward to celebrating this journey on February 22nd. Learn more at simons-soiree.org.

There are mission based events and then there are really important events. Of course, one event can check both boxes. This is one of my favorite events of the year and it only happens because of the will, determination and compassion of my friend, Martha Benedum Sharkey. The organizations listed on this poster only have two things in common. We have all buried children and have started organizations. Our missions are different. However, one day a year, we put mission aside and create space for any parent in the Greater Philadelphia area to grieve and remember. It is both inspiring and heartbreaking to hear a parent read a poem to her son or tell a story about his daughter. If you know someone who has lost a child, please share this post with them. We'd be honored to welcome them next year into this space. Today is a Good Day | Simon's Heart | Noelle's Light | Aubrey's Advocate | Sloane's Roses
