Simplify

Layoffs are happening. Every day, I see amazing talent in my network back on the market. Having recently been on the market myself, a tip: Use Simplify. (They are not paying me to say this. I don't know them. It's just really good.) Deep into my job hunt, I kept reading best practices that mentioned tailoring my resume to each job and writing a flawless cover letter. Great, in theory! But I had to choose between submitting 10 good applications a day and 3-4 great ones. In this market, and with the financial clock ticking, I had to choose the 10. Until I didn't. -Simplify used AI to tailor my existing resume based on keywords found in each individual job posting. (Take that, arbitrary applicant-tracking systems!) -It helped me generate similarly keyword-rich cover letters that I could then personalize. (You don't have to, but 100% AI-generated content is painful, obvious, and painfully obvious.) -It also suggested job openings for me based on some extremely selective parameters. (I'm picky!) Bonus: it cost 40 bucks for a 3-month subscription (the length of the average job search), and I got hired well before the subscription ended. The peace of mind alone was worth the cost, knowing that some fickle robot wouldn't reject me out of hand because I said "copywriting" instead of "copy writing". So, for all my friends newly on the job hunt, save yourself some time and elbow grease. Use something like Simplify, so you can play the numbers game without sacrificing quality.

I met my cofounder at the Stanford dining hall my freshman year of college. We became friends after unintentionally matching outfits and getting laughed at. Later that year, we went through the brutal process of finding a job/internship. After 100s of applications, we decided to build a product to address some of the biggest challenges we faced in the job search (the prototype for Simplify!) One year later, Ethan and I both:   • Dropped out of college (*the grad photo is fake, IYKYK) • Turned down full-time job offers to do Y Combinator • Moved to SF Today, we’ve built a platform that’s helped over half a million people apply to 40 million jobs. First day of my last year at UCI, and no classes today! 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐈’𝐦 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭: 1. Applying to jobs – Leveraging Simplify to speed up those Workday applications. 2. Consolidating my personal stories for behavioral interviews. 3. Practicing LeetCode to prep for coding assessments. So far, I’ve submitted about 𝟕𝟎 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 for New Grad Software Engineering roles, with responses from 𝟕 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 (interviews or coding assessments). I've recently been using Simplify, a browser extension that auto-fills job applications on most websites. It's saved me so much time and energy, especially as someone who's been recently laid off and is actively looking for new opportunities. They also have their own job board with great search and filter options, and I've found it's one of the few places were the remote job filter actually gives me accurate results! Helpful tip for candidates: Want to cut *A LOT* time when applying for jobs? Use the extension made by Simplify to auto fill application fields when you get to a job application. Depending on the Applicant Tracking System - Workday 🙃 , Greenhouse, Lever... it will pull your resume for you, select your identification selections such as race, disability, veteran status, etc. It can also track places you have applied to. #jobs #opentowork #careersearch #candidates

Job search is not fun. Answering the same questions on every application is annoying, especially in the current market, where over 80% of resumes end up in the trash before a human ever sees them, forcing applicants to mass-send resumes at a rate of 50+ per day. Work authorization, gender, race, veteran status, disability - answering these questions over and over again felt to me like an enormous waste of effort that really benefits no one. I got annoyed enough to almost start writing a Chrome plugin that would answer these questions once and for all.
