Sherri Pennington, MBA, PMP, SFC, ALB of The Black Experience and WKUD Community Spotlight recently asked about the origins of SISTERHOOD SIT-IN. While many were introduced through our impactful trolley tours, the roots of our movement run much deeper. Before the tours, there was an actual "Sit-In," a protest deeply inspired by our ancestors and their unwavering commitment to protecting and serving one another. Did you know that in 1917, 10,000 Black women, children, and men took to the streets of NYC's Fifth Avenue in a "mute but solemn protest" against the atrocities and discrimination practiced against our race across the country? Understanding "Why We Ride" is crucial. Sisterhood Sit-In is not just a bus ride; it is a statement of power, a commitment to stand, sit, and ride for justice until systemic barriers are shattered and the walls come tumbling down. Our journey is a continuation of that legacy—a testament to our strength, unity, and unyielding demand for justice. Join us in this powerful movement. Together, we are unstoppable. #SisterhoodSitIn #OurLoveIsTheProtest #WhyWeMarch #BlackHistory #Empowerment #Justice #Unity #Strength

Sisterhood Sit-In In this captivating digital artwork, we explore the power of Sankofa through a contemporary lens, paying homage to the diverse experiences of diasporic African women. The image depicts two women, back to back, their faces turned in opposite directions - one looking forward to the future, the other reflecting on the past. This powerful composition symbolizes the importance of drawing wisdom from our history while fearlessly stepping into the uncharted territories of tomorrow. The women are adorned with futuristic headphones, intricately designed with vibrant pink and turquoise hues. These colors, bold and striking against the energetic orange background, represent the fusion of tradition and innovation. The headphones serve as a metaphor for the digital tools and technologies we harness to amplify our voices and create a more connected, empowered community. Central to the artwork is the braided hair that merges seamlessly, forming a bridge between the two women. This braided bridge represents the timeless significance of hair in our culture, as a means of exchanging information, sharing stories, and preserving wisdom. It reminds us of the "Sit-In" spirit of our sisterhood - a powerful act of protest, unity, and the reclamation of our narratives. This artwork is a call to action, urging us to embrace our past while boldly coding our future. It celebrates the power of the digital age to unite us, to help us learn from our histories, and to create a world where our stories and voices are amplified. As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of the present, let us draw inspiration from the Sankofa spirit - honoring our roots while innovating towards a brighter, more equitable future. Through this lens, we recognize the strength and resilience of diasporic African women, who, despite the challenges of displacement and oppression, continue to code the algorithms of change, connecting the nodes of our global community. Let this artwork be a testament to our collective power, our shared wisdom, and the unbreakable links of our sisterhood. Just as lines of code come together to create transformative applications, we unite to build a future where our voices are heard, our stories are celebrated, and our innovations shape the world. #BlackWomenEntrepeneuers #Sisterhood #Sankofa #BlackWomeninTech #BlackWomeninAI #BlackWomenOwnedBusiness #SisterhoodistheFuture

Current Landscape for Black Women in Tech and AI: - Representation: Black women constitute about 3% of the workforce in the tech industry, a number that drops even lower when focusing specifically on AI roles. - Leadership Positions: In major tech companies, only 1% of executives and senior-level tech roles are held by Black women. - Community and Support: Despite these challenges, there has been a 200% increase in community-driven initiatives and networks specifically aimed at supporting Black women in tech and AI over the past five years. These initiatives focus on mentorship, skill development, and fostering sisterhood within the tech space. At Sisterhood Sit-In, we center storytelling and ancient technologies to invigorate a passion for new ways to spread our message, increase engagement, and showcase tangible change. We're committed to working together for future outcomes that make life better for our daughters and future generations. This approach is a solution because it taps into ancient wisdom and storytelling, harnessing them to amplify modern messages of empowerment, change, and engagement. By blending these timeless practices with contemporary technology, Sisterhood Sit-In provides a unique way to inspire participation and cultivate evidence of transformation. Harnessing Sacred Wisdom & Tech to Redefine Diversity and Inclusion Hey beautiful souls! At Sisterhood Sit-In, we're not just talking about diversity and inclusion; we're reimagining it through a blend of sacred wisdom, cutting-edge technology, and an afrofuturistic vision that propels us forward. In a world that often settles for surface-level change, we dare to dig deeper. We're about creating spaces that aren't just diverse but are sanctuaries of real understanding and growth. Here's how we're doing it: 1. Tech-Enabled Empathy - We’re leveraging technology to foster empathy and understanding. Through digital art and immersive experiences, we allow individuals to step into the lives of others, breaking down barriers and building a heartfelt connection that transcends traditional diversity training. 2. Afrofuturism as a Lens - We view our work through an afrofuturistic lens, envisioning a future where black culture and technological innovation merge to create a society that honors ancestral wisdom while blazing new trails. It’s about crafting a tomorrow where everyone’s heritage fuels collective advancement. 3. Rebellious Unity - Our approach is rebellious because it challenges the status quo. We don't just include; we disrupt. We dismantle the structures that uphold inequality and replace them with systems that promote true equity. This is unity fueled by love-based protest, where standing together doesn’t mean standing still. 4. Sisterhood at the Core- At the heart of our mission is a powerful sisterhood, a bond that uplifts and supports. It's about creating a community where every woman, every person, feels seen, heard, and valued, not just as contributors but as creators of the future. We’re calling all dreamers, rebels, and changemakers to join us. Let’s not just fill seats at the table—let’s create a whole new one where diversity, equity, and inclusion are more than goals—they’re the foundations of everything we build. Together, we're not just changing the game; we're creating a new one. Are you in? #SisterhoodSitIn #DiversityReimagined #TechForGood #Afrofuturism #UnityInRebellion
