It was an honor to work with The Hudson Companies, Inc. on this important project. SPR looks forward to attending the ribbon cutting in 2027!
Last month, The Hudson Companies was honored to host a groundbreaking ceremony, along with our partners at St. Nicks Alliance, for the second phase of Kingsland Commons. This long vacant site will be transformed into 311 units of affordable housing (including 93 reserved for formerly homeless individuals and families), community facility and retail space, and 40,000 square feet of publicly accessible open space. The shovels hitting the dirt at the ceremony was the culmination of decades of efforts by The Greenpoint Renaissance Enterprise Corporation (GREC) to activate the Greenpoint Hospital campus following its closure. The activation of the site would not be possible without our partners at NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development, New York City Housing Development Corporation, NYC Department of City Planning, and countless other governmental agencies. The vision for the transformation of the campus is the fruit of much labor by former and current members of the Hudson team--including Aaron Koffman, Max Zarin and Michael Ohlhausen who responded to an RFP in 2017 with a proposal that will create over 550 units of affordable housing and 200 beds for homeless individuals once complete. Many kudos to the team of Joseph Kohl Riggs, Ernie Padron, and Jordan Camina who were able to close on this transaction in record time and continue to lead the development of this exciting project. We are also very appreciative of the design team that is helping bring the beautiful renderings into real life with special thanks to Magnusson Architecture and Planning PC, Architecture Outfit, Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects and Planners, Front, Philip Habib and Associates, De Nardis Engineering, Dagher Engineering, PLLC , GEODesign, Inc., and Steven Winter Associates. A complex project requires best in class professionals and we had those in the form of Hirschen Singer & Epstein LLP, Bryan Cave LLP, Sive, Paget & Riesel, Bousquet Holstein and Roux. We were honored to have so many of the elected officials and local stakeholders in attendance that have helped drive this project forward including Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer, Office of the Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso, NYC Council Members Jennifer Gutierrez and Lincoln Restler, NYS Senator Julia Salazar and NYS Assembly Member Maritza Davila. We would also like to give special thanks to our financing partners BNY, Capital One, Hudson Housing Capital LLC, New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation (NYCEEC), HPD, HDC and NYSERDA. All of whom are helping New York City grow. Hudson is extremely proud of this project and the impact it will have on the local community. We cannot wait to have everyone back for the ribbon cutting in 2027.

SPR's Kayley McGrath and Ahlia Bethea were pleased to attend Newtown Creek Alliance's 7th Annual Tidal Toast, hosted at the gorgeous Greenpoint Loft! This year's Tidal Toast honored Randy Austin, Shino Tanikawa, and Tri-Lox for their amazing work as environmental stewards of Newtown Creek and the local community. It was a delight to mingle with community members, environmental consultants (we snapped a picture with our friends at EnviroTrac Ltd., Jeffrey Bohlen, CPG, John Buhagiar and Michael Alliegro), local businesses, and long-time champions of the Creek. Thank you to our client, Hunters Point Recycling, for generously inviting us to attend this great event! #NewtownCreek #NCA #SixtyYearsOfEnvironmentalLaw

SPR’s Meg Holden and Kayley McGrath had a wonderful time at the New York League of Conservation Voters’ 2024 New York City Cocktail Party honoring our client, NineDot Energy! NineDot’s recognition is well-deserved, as NineDot is a leading community-scale clean energy developer with a focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the New York City metropolitan area. It was a beautiful night at Pier 17, as we celebrated NineDot and many of the City’s trailblazing environmental initiatives while overlooking the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge. Thank you to the New York League of Conservation Voters for hosting such a lively event, and congratulations again to NineDot Energy! #CleanEnergy #NineDotEnergy #EnvironmentalLaw #NLCV #BatteryEnergyStorage #RenewableEnergy #SixtyYearsOfEnvironmentalLaw

SPR’s Alexis Saba and Daniel Goldberg-Gradess were delighted to attend last night’s Urban Green Council gala! Building sustainability is top of mind in NYC as we close out the first Local Law 97 compliance year and digest NYC Department of Buildings recent proposed implementing regulations (see SPR’s latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/gBe77Bw6). The gala was a special opportunity to catch up with stakeholders from across the real estate and green building community, celebrating the progress we’ve made toward building decarbonization and getting energized for the important work ahead. As a final treat, Urban Green’s John Mandyck led a rousing fireside chat with Gina McCarthy, former head of USEPA under President Obama and the first ever White House National Climate Advisor under President Biden, where she helped shape and ultimately pass the Inflation Reduction Act. #BuildingSustainability #BuildingDecarbonization #EnergyEfficiency #LocalLaw97 #LL97 #NYCRealEstate #NYCEnvironmentalLaw #SixtyYearsOfEnvironmentalLaw
