Our annual Past Presidents Cookout and Silent Auction was a spectacular success! We indulged in Croatian Ćevapčići, three varieties of Nepalese Momos, juicy burgers, hotdogs, grilled steak, and a delightful selection of Finger Lakes wines generously donated by Visit Rochester and Greg Marshall from Skål Albany. The silent auction featured amazing prizes from Delta Airlines, Club Med, Antigua and Barbuda, and more, adding excitement to the day. But even more memorable was reconnecting with over 40 fellow Skåleagues from Skål New York, Albany, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. Dear Skålleagues: Permit me to introduce myself, I am Andrés Omar Hayes, a proud member of Skal International Greater Washington, D.C., for more than a decade. I currently serve as Skål International Director from Region 1. Since becoming a member of Skål International in 2013, I have been thrilled to see how the organization and our industry have continued to survive, thrive, and transition in a post-pandemic world. It is with great excitement that I announce my candidacy for the role of Skål International Vice President/President-elect 2026. As Skål enters its 90th year as the only organization that brings together the entire tourism industry and promotes friendship, business, and tourism worldwide, I am delighted to run for office and pledge my support to respond to the unique challenges our industry faces in strategic ways that align with Skål’s stated mission and vision. I am looking forward to continuing being an advocate for you as a member and for your club, and to position Skål International as the key organization that serves as the voice of Hospitality and Tourism. Yesterday, Airtifae Group brought together Skalleagues from all over the world at the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) World Congress in Berlin, Germany. Our esteemed Skalleagues discussed challenges and issues facing the hospitality and tourism industry, such as geopolitical issues, sustainability and environmental impact, labor shortages, and human trafficking, and how we can address them. Our audience learned from experts Tito Livio Mongelli and Mario Cardone especially on the topic of AI in the industry and how the industry will continue to evolve and adapt as the world changes. Afterwards, a panel session of Annette Cardenas Bertrand Petyt, and Moritz Freise, moderated by Barry Biggar discussed the challenges and opportunities the industry faces. PROJECT FUTURE…continues to progress with the exceptional efforts of so many team members. A Skål USA committee, Project Future, was established to bridge the gap between academia and the working world by opening the doors for hospitality students to gain real world experiences with the over 12,000 Skalleagues around the globe. Last week’s Committee Zoom reviewed the official launch of Project Future at the recent NASC, North American Skål Congress and also discussed the following accomplishments and plans: The Skål International Membership Development, Membership Development Fund and Young Skål Committee successfully launched the first of many Webinars to help guide students and Young Skalleagues through their educational days and early career journeys. The alliance between NY Skål and the University of Florida is continuing their work this summer to launch by the Fall semester. New committees are being formed and we invite your participation. A “Tool Kit of Assets” is being developed to guide Skål Clubs through the process of growing their membership through today’s enthusiastic and highly intelligent youth. We welcomed members of the Hawaii Club to the Project Future team and they provided us with an excellent presentation educating us on their stellar Young Skål program where they have raised over $100,000 in scholarship money!!
