About us

At Skellig Automation, we are committed to transforming the Life Sciences industry. Not just another systems integrator, we create true partnerships with organizations and people who want to revolutionize global health outcomes. We provide comprehensive engineering services throughout the project lifecycle. We are also vendor agnostic. From automation support to project management, we implement modern, customized solutions that fit our clients’ needs, not a sales quota. That means making projects more efficient, operating with transparent business practices, and embodying the spirit of real teamwork. Our people-first culture extends beyond our employees. By reducing the cost of manufacturing and innovating inefficiencies out of the industry, we can guide the Life Sciences towards more affordable and accessible healthcare on a global scale. Still gathering all my notes from my blitz one day trip to the Pharma MES conference. I feel like I didn't talk to a fraction of the people I wanted to talk to, so if I didn't catch you then reach out! I saw some really great talks on Apprentice.io deployments, learned bit more about knowledge graphs with Kirt Anderson and David Schultz, heard John Harrington's thoughts on what defines a good data strategy and met some incredible folks who are truly passionate about next generation MES platforms, data modeling and digital transformation!

𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 4.0 𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗧𝗨 & 𝗡𝗜𝗕𝗥𝗧 Yesterday, Paul O'Sullivan, Hunter Woodie, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜, on behalf of Skellig Automation, had the incredible opportunity to guest lecture for the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 4.0 module, part of the 𝗠𝗦𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 jointly offered by 𝗔𝗧𝗨 𝗦𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗼 & 𝗡𝗜𝗕𝗥𝗧—a huge thank you to Daniel O' Mahony for the invitation! (Link to the course below)  We shared our vision for what 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 4.0 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 will look like and discussed real-world successes (and lessons learned) from pursuing 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 (𝗨𝗡𝗦)-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. We also explored how 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 like Tulip Interfaces are making it easier for manufacturers to build 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀—without the traditional barriers of complex software development.  But more importantly, we wanted to leave the class with a message:  💡𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆. As the next generation of pharmaceutical manufacturers, you have the power to shape what comes next. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀—𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸-𝗶𝗻. Digital transformation isn’t about doing things the way they’ve always been done. If you’re doing it right, 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁. To the students we met yesterday—thank you for the opportunity to share our message! 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 is how we gain 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 that deliver 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. We can’t wait to see how you shape the future of 𝗕𝗶𝗼-𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 4.0. Head of Digital & Data at Skellig Automation

Had the most interesting 15 minute conversation with Jonathan Wise that Amy Williams and I are going to turn into a deeper dive on the Skellig Automation YouTube channel. It got to the crux of what I also saw as an issue with the flexibility inherent in leveraging MQTT as the core of a unified namespace strategy which was twofold: 1) No mechanism to leverage or enforce data model standards 2) Topical namespaces using ISA95 make it extremely difficult to represent complex relationships that aren't parent/child I think the solution here lies in a more widespread adoption of global standards such as those from CESMII and Allotrope Foundation but there's much more work to be done specific to Biomanufacturing. If you are a machine/instrument maker in life sciences it's important to consider connectivity standard and data model standards so that end users don't need to rely on overpriced middleware.

  • 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗔𝘄𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴! Head of Digital & Data at Skellig Automation

Finally ready to announce that I'm joining the team at Skellig Automation as Head of Digital & Data! I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who reached out after my role was eliminated at Catalent. The overwhelming support I received in those weeks was truly humbling. I feel incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful network of friends and colleagues who were willing to lend a helping hand. I hope I can return the favor someday! When Paul O'Sullivan and Jennifer Jones reached out, there was no question as to where I wanted to go next. Their mission, values, and the culture they’ve built at Skellig are truly exceptional. What excites me most about this new opportunity is the chance to collaborate with all the incredible individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working with at Lonza, Catalent, and through groups like BioPhorum. If you’re facing challenges with a digital transformation project, whether it’s basic data plumbing or exploring innovative ideas, I’d love to connect and help. Feel free to reach out to me via DM or email. My updated contact information is available on my LinkedIn profile.

Just wrapped up an amazing time at QbdVision summit! It was an incredible opportunity to learn about the latest QbDVision innovations and connect with amazing professionals in the life sciences industry. A huge thank you to QbdVision summit organizers and speakers for insightful discussions and inspiring sessions. Today, much of CMC (chemistry, manufacturing, and controls) still relies on Word documents, Excel Spreadsheets, and PDFs, which creates a big opportunity for innovation in Life Sciences. The shift to digital transformation is inevitable, and we are excited to be part of this transformation. One key takeaway that stood out to me was how AI is reshaping many things— powering product demos and future applications and even generating insights in real-time breakout sessions. AI is not something for the future — it’s already here and changing the game for Digital CMC and the industry. Looking forward to the application of these insights and continuing the conversations. If we connected at the event, let’s keep in touch! What were your key takeaways? #DigitalCMC #AI #LifeSciences #TechTransfer #DigitalTransformation
