Did you know? As of 2021, there were 2.7 million Indian immigrants living in the United States! That’s about 6% of all foreign-born people here. And we have even surpassed China! Have you ever wondered when this trend of Indians moving to the U.S. started? It all began when Congress ended the quotas that favored Europeans, opening the door for many people seeking new opportunities. Still, some folks think that Indian immigrants are mostly low-skilled workers, but that’s not true! After World War II, many Indians came to the U.S. to find jobs and pursue their education. Today, most of us arrive through job offers or family connections. Here are some interesting facts: 1️⃣ India is the largest source of international graduate students in the U.S. for the first time since the 2009-10 academic year, with 268,923 Indian students in the 2022-23 academic year! 2️⃣ Eighty percent of Indian immigrants aged 25 and older have at least a bachelor’s degree, which is much higher than the one-third average for all adults in the US. 3️⃣ Nearly 49% of Indian immigrants hold advanced degrees, compared to 15% of foreign-born and 13% of U.S.-born adults. 4️⃣ In 2021, 72% of Indian immigrants aged 16 and older were employed, exceeding 66% of foreign-born and 62% of U.S.-born citizens. Indians were much more likely to work in jobs related to management, business, science, and the arts than the other two groups. 5️⃣ Indian immigrants are generally younger than the foreign-born population but older than U.S.-born individuals, with about 80% aged 18 to 64. So yes, we are a significant part of the working population! Even with the green card backlog and challenges with the H-1B lottery, the U.S. is still the top choice for Indian immigrants looking for great careers. This just goes to show: “The U.S. has a place for everyone who is willing to work hard” and that’s so true! #smartgreencard #usimmigrants #greencard #eb1a #h1b #statistics #immigrationstats
