A collection of brand-builders, documentarian thought-provokers, independent truth-seekers, and non-profit do-gooders.
About us
Nothing against pants. They’re practical. They’re fashionable. They go great with shirts. But when award-winning filmmaker Joshua Seftel founded Smartypants, his mission was not to create a pants company. His goal was to craft stories that connect with people. We are a collection of brand-builders. Problem-solvers. Bone-rattlers. And tear-jerkers. We are documentarian thought-provokers, independent truth-seekers, and non-profit do-gooders. We collaborate with game-changers. Our clients are risk-takers. And our projects are conversation-starters. (They’re also award-winners.)

Get to know a Smarty! Jess Weiss is a producer who cares deeply about the art of storytelling. With her masterful budgetary skills, she loves the logistical puzzle of making a project happen. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Jess is used to finding resources in different parts of the world and loves collaborating with new teams - though New York is her home. She has produced projects all over the United States, as well as internationally in Latin America and Europe. With over ten years of production experience, Jess has worked in narrative and documentary feature films and TV shows, commercials, branded campaigns, theatre, immersive, experiential and live events. She has produced content for Instagram, Diet Coke, Delta Air Lines, Panera Bread, among many others, which have garnered her a few Cannes Lions, Webby, D&AD and Clio awards. Her films have also been selected for international festivals worldwide, recently at Tribeca and Camerimage. She’s a member of the Producers Guild of America and the Television Academy.

Award-winning Nigerian movie and theater director, producer and cultural entrepreneur, BAP Productions and Terra Kulture
Making this movie and showing this movie was tough! Through God and grace, we came out on top and won "Best Movie" @Afriff and nominated for Best Movie @amvca inspite of the pain of birthing it! Go and see why! As a people we have been through a lot and we rise up over and over again. Nothing seems to crush us but sometimes we tend to forget how great and powerful we are. We tend to laugh off our pains and our struggles. But sometimes we need to introspect and reflect on our journey. Making this movie, showing this movie and distributing this movie in and of itself is a story worth talking about. This movie shows us the strength that lies within us as Nigerians. It shows us the stuff that every Nigerian is made of. It shows us the strength of a woman, it shows us that united we can take over the world. This is a movie I am gratified that today we get to show the world the incredible work done by my team members and myself. We fought to ensure that this movie gets to the cinemas so that Nigerians get to see it and ignites a fire within us and a sense of purpose. It is important that we all go out and watch this movie that impacts all of us, our legacy, our history. Please spread the word, spread the campaign. Let us change our narrative. #FunmilayoRansomeKuti #FRKtheMovie #BAPProduction #May17 #FelasMother #Terrakulture in cinemas from today!
