Don't let a small budget scare your big ideas! The horror genre is a testament to the power of creativity and passion. Classic films like Night of the Living Dead and modern indie gems prove that you don't need a Hollywood studio or a million-dollar budget to make a terrifying film. With a little ingenuity, a lot of heart, and a whole lot of spooky spirit, you can turn your nightmarish visions into reality (we here at Snarky know quite a bit about that!) So this Halloween, let's celebrate the underdogs of the horror world and inspire the next generation of filmmakers. Grab your camera, your friends, and your darkest imagination, and let's make some horror history! Happy Halloween! #lowbudgethorror #indiehorror #horrorfilm #halloween #filmmaking

Congratulations to Shruti Parekh and the ZARI team on their nomination for the 2024 Austin Film Festival Jury Award in the Narrative Shorts category! This is a significant achievement, especially given the ongoing challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community in Texas. ZARI's Texas premiere is a powerful statement of support for self-expression and artistic freedom. We're absolutely thrilled to see this important story gaining recognition and can't wait to see it on the big screen. #AustinFilmFestival #ZARI #NarrativeShorts #LGBTQ+ #Filmmaking

Zari is having its world premiere at NewFest! "Zari" is a short film about Neelu, a young American in Delhi for her sister’s wedding who forges an unexpected connection with Zeyb, a quiet sari store clerk who moonlights as an internet drag queen. We're so grateful to have been part of this journey, and we're so excited to see the film ourselves! We're so proud of Shruti Parekh and everyone who made this film into reality. Get tickets now to watch Zari, and we hope to see you there! https://lnkd.in/gsbsnDnF

The Emmys Awards are over! So what’s the verdict on diversity? Well… we’ll let you decide. But we can tell you that 5 out of 12 acting awards went to people of color, which is definitely a step in the right direction! But whether or not that's "enough," is always in question. But we are excited all the same to celebrate these actors and their accolades! Congratulations! #emmys #diversity

Hey Hollywood, it’s time to #GreenlightDisability. Given the massive global disability audience, it’s shocking how underrepresented they are in mainstream media. The Inevitable Foundation’s recent study found that 66% of viewers are unsatisfied with disability representation on screen. It’s time for the entire entertainment industry to step up. Inevitable Foundation penned an open letter with action points to address. From creatives and IP owners to executives, data analysts, and marketers, everyone has a role to play. Let’s make disability representation a priority and show the community that their stories are visible too. Read the full open letter on The Hollywood Reporter! #snarkyelephant #greenlightdisability #representation #inevitablefoundation #diversity

While blockbusters like Barbie hit the headlines, unfortunately last year was not the “Year of the Woman.” The 2023 Annenberg Inclusion Initiative report actually reveals a decline in female representation in leading roles, dropping from 44% in 2022 to a concerning 30%, matching 2010 levels. The Epidemic of Invisibility disproportionately affects women of color. To put into perspective: 99/100 lacked Native/Pacific Islander women 81/100 lacked Middle Eastern/North African women 62/100 lacked Latina representation 56/100 lacked multiracial/multiethnic women 49/100 lacked Asian women 39/100 lacked Black women In contrast, only 12/100 of the top 100 films lacked white women. This also affects queer and disabled characters! Only 2.2% of all speaking characters in 2023's top films were shown with a disability, a statistic that hasn’t changed over the last decade! 76/100 featured zero queer characters, and there were only two trans characters in 2023. Diversity isn't just a trend, it's good business. Beyond the fact that representation is obviously a good cause, diverse storytelling is a proven box office driver. Audiences crave stories that reflect our complex world. The industry needs a shake-up, and smaller studios and creators are leading the charge for inclusion. Let’s go out and be that driver of change! Check out our website and join the Snarky Herd! https://lnkd.in/e4VixwQE

We're only a few days away (the 18th!) from the last day to vote for Snarky Elephant Productions' panel to be at #SXSW2025 focused on production companies that are changing how films are made, specifically by giving unprecedented support, transparency, and beyond. We have some major heavy hitters on our proposed panel, including Raeshem Nijhon of Culture House Media, Tracy Van Slyke of Pop Culture Collaborative, Leo M. of Decentralized Pictures Foundation, Sarah Wharton of BFD Productions, and Vishaal Reddy of Snarky Elephant. If you can spare a moment, please vote and help us to share why this is so important (and hopefully inspire others to do the same). Link to do so is: https://lnkd.in/dj-Jc32J
We’re excited to share that our panel, "Film Creator and Production Company Disruptors," is in the running to be featured at SXSW 2025! This panel will explore how production companies and creators are challenging the status quo to democratize the filmmaking process and create impactful stories that defy social norms. But we need your help to make it happen! The panels with the most votes will be officially invited to present, and your vote can make all the difference. Voting ends on August 18th, 2024—cast your vote here: https://lnkd.in/e3EfybSw As major networks work to correct the imbalance between creators and networks, the spotlight will soon be on how production companies select and support original content. This session will bring together industry leaders who are paving the way for more inclusive and innovative storytelling. Our incredible roster of panel speakers include: Vishaal Reddy, CEO, Snarky Elephant Productions Leo M., CEO / Founder, Decentralized Pictures Foundation Sarah Wharton, Director of Development, BFD Productions / The Lower East Side Film Festival Raeshem Nijhon, Founder / Executive Producer, Culture House Media Neal Ludevig, CCO of Snarky Elephant Productions, will be organizing this session.
