"The real factor is: how accurate on specialized data does your model have to be?" Our CEO, Alexander Ratner at our inaugural SnorkelCon user conference, laid out the difference between what he called "Wave 1" and "Wave 2" gen AI use-cases. Enterprises are already reaping meaningful value form Wave 1 use-cases, he said, where the output doesn't have to be that accurate or specific to a given organization. He gave the example of code co-pilots. Most firms use the same coding languages, and a human coder rejects or adapts any generated code that doesn't work. But many use cases require high accuracy on very specific data. These are wave 2 applications, and Alex thinks that the value they could yield is much larger.
