A recent study published in Annals of Surgical Oncology sheds light on the clinicopathological predictors of positive resection margins in breast-conserving surgery. The research, led by Chauhan et al., highlights the significant impact of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) on the likelihood of a positive margin in patients undergoing surgery for invasive breast cancer. Notably, the study found that the presence of DCIS increases the relative risk of an involved margin by over eightfold compared to pure invasive breast cancer.
