In 2023, Madison's Troy Farm took a significant step towards sustainability by expanding their solar power capacity. With federal, state, and local funding—including a $12,000 direct payment from the federal government—the farm installed a grid-tied system that now powers their operations. This has enabled them to achieve net-zero energy costs and focus more on their mission to connect the community through food, land, and learning. The impact of this upgrade is felt far beyond the farm itself, benefiting local growers who share the space and the broader community. Across the world, we are on track to install one-third more solar capacity in 2024 than was installed in 2023. More solar energy is good for everyone, including individual homeowners. More solar energy also means more jobs, more reliable and secure energy, improvements to the overall power grid, and even better health. https://ow.ly/zASo50TMEMl

Thank you SunCast Podcast for hosting SUN’s founder and Executive Director, Anya Schoolman, for a great conversation about solar and what happens when community members join together.
In 2007, a grassroots effort in Washington, DC started by two young boys grew into something much larger—Solar United Neighbors, a national nonprofit that has transformed the way communities across the country adopt solar energy. What began as a local campaign evolved into a movement that has facilitated over 10,000 residential solar projects 🏠, empowering neighborhoods with affordable, distributed solar power. Under the leadership of Executive Director, Anya Schoolman, Solar United Neighbors continues to drive policy change, consumer protection, and community involvement in the clean energy transition. Expect to learn: ⚡ What is the Solar for All program and how it is expanding solar access to underserved communities. ⚡ How Solar United Neighbors expanded into a nationwide movement now representing one million solar homeowners. ⚡ Why we can’t decarbonize without distributed solar ⚡Who wins because of the organization’s efforts in consumer protection, ensuring transparency in solar contracts. This ripple effect of community-driven action is how real change happens. When one person (or neighbor) goes solar, it inspires others, creating a collective movement toward the clean energy transition.
