"We weave an essential net that catches thousands of our Seattle neighbors each year before they lose their housing or fall into homelessness. Just a few million dollars — a small drop in the $8.3 billion city budget — funds this vital work. Cutting this support in half will unravel this net." Our CEO Shalimar Gonzales joined the directors of the Catholic Community Services & InterIm CDA for this important op-ed: https://lnkd.in/g5896S3z

When Lee Harper joined our agency as a farm coordinator in 1998, Marra Farm was a tangle of weeds. Now, Marra Farm grows and distributes 10,000 lbs of organic produce per year to combat hunger, empower families & most of all, build community: a great skill that Lee has carried with her beyond Solid Ground. It's hard for us to understand why Mayor Bruce Harrell proposed a city budget that would slash funding for prevention services like renters' rights education, financial assistance, and legal help. Solid Ground’s Tenant Services and Benefits Legal Assistance programs both rely on this critical city funding. Now is not the time to pull back on our work to help people keep their homes. Here's what you can do to take action TODAY: 👉 Sign up to give public comment at one of the upcoming hearings: The next one is TODAY, Wednesday, October 16 at 5pm. 👉 Email your councilmembers urging them to restore and increase funding. 👉 Learn more advocacy skills at the online Budget Advocacy Training on Tuesday, October 22 from 10-11:30am.
