Solid Ground envisions a community beyond poverty and oppression where all people have equitable opportunity to thrive.

About us

Our communities are stronger when we support stability and break down the barriers to overcoming poverty. Solid Ground combines direct services with advocacy to meet basic needs, nurture success, and spread change. Through 20+ programs, people gain stability and build skills that equip them to move forward in their lives. We work toward ending racism and other oppressions embedded in our institutions, policies, and culture that hold people back from succeeding. By amplifying the voices of people experiencing poverty throughout the political process, we further social justice and support our entire community in reaching its fullest potential. Each Year more than 65,000 King County residents engage with Solid Ground to address their urgent food, housing & transportation needs, while changing the institutional practices & policies that perpetuate poverty.

  • Solving poverty is tough work. We know we’re not always going to get it right, but that won't stop us from trying. That’s why every year we ask the people we serve about their experiences, what we did well, and how we can improve. 133 people participated in our latest Community Feedback Survey, and while feedback we got was overwhelmingly positive, we also learned there are several ways we can do better around communication, closing gaps in resources, and enhancing security. 📝 Learn more about what we heard from our community, and what the steps we're taking to improve, on our website: https://lnkd.in/gEkZZb3X

  • Get tickets to Feeding Change, a panel discussion featuring Yamila Sterling, Solid Ground’s Director of Food Access & Education, on Thursday March 20 at Town Hall Seattle! We already know this will be an insightful conversation you won’t want to miss 🍏

The Feeding Change Discussion Panel in collaboration with Town Hall Seattle is less than a week away! Have you purchased your ticket? There is no good reason for anyone in Washington – a state with immense wealth and resources – to be hungry. And yet, 1 in 10 neighbors are struggling to access enough food to feed themselves and their families. Proposed budgetary and policy decisions at the federal, state and local level have the potential to either aid or hinder our collective efforts to address hunger in our community. Join our food bank and a panel of local experts and change makers at Town Hall on Thursday, March 20 at 7:30 PM, as together we explore the root causes of hunger, community-led solutions, and the actions we can each take to build towards a hunger-free future. Tickets are sliding scale starting at $10 with free admission for ages 22 and younger. Learn more about the event and the panelists and purchase your ticket by visiting the event page. https://lnkd.in/grtx8KRR

  • MLK Lobby Day is back in a big way with Statewide Poverty Action Network! • Last week, our friends from Carter Subaru partnered with Operation Warm at Solid Ground's Sand Point housing campus to donate 300 winter coats for the kids living at Sand Point and the Broadview Shelter: just in time for Seattle snow! ❄️ Volunteers from Subaru and Broadview joined in to help kids pick out coats that fit their growing bodies and styles. Thank you to Carter Subaru for spreading warmth to youth 🧥 🥰
