We designed this Toroidal Propeller in SOLIDWORKS, programmed it in SolidCAM, and machined it on a Grob G150. The material used was 7075 Aluminum Alloy, pre-roughed with 3D iMachining and fully machined in under 4 hours. We utilized circle segment cutters, which can be defined natively or imported directly into SolidCAM’s toolkit. SolidCAM supports all four main types of circle segment cutters: Barrel, Ball end, Lens, and Conical Barrel mills. A Toroidal Propeller provides the advantages of noise reduction, enhanced efficiency, and increased safety. Meet Star of the Month, David Raju Kastala, Product Manager at SolidCAM! David started his career at the age of 19 as a conventional machinist and later transitioned to a CNC operator in the tool room. Before joining SolidCAM, David spent 8 years as a CNC operator and programmer, developing a deep understanding of milling and turning processes. Since joining SolidCAM in 2018 as a QA Engineer, David has tested 3-axis milling (3D HSR and 3D HSM/Turbo 3D HSR and Turbo 3D HSM) and later transitioned to testing 4-axis and 5-axis milling modules. Today, he is part of the Product Management team as a Product Manager responsible for 3-axis and 5-axis milling products. He focuses on integrating ModuleWorks technologies and enhancing our products based on customer feedback. His notable projects include Pro 3D HSM and Multiaxis Undercut Milling, which were released in SC2024. For David, SolidCAM has been an incredible platform to apply his experience, offering numerous opportunities to learn new products and the freedom to innovate and grow in his role. Outside of work, David enjoys reading about missionaries, spending quality time with his wife and son, and is a passionate runner with personal bests of 51 minutes for 10KM and 2 hours and 15 minutes for 21.5KM. Visit with Zvika Friedman to an important veteran SolidCAM customer, Y.M. Milling. Y.M. Milling has always been an early adopter of SolidCAM’s latest technologies. They are currently very successfully using several seats of SolidCAM for Operators, right by the CNC machines, to provide their Operators with the tool to view the Solid Simulation of the CAM Part, the Setup, and the Tooltable, optionally make small changes in the Part, and then regenerate the updated Gcode. They will now be among the first users of our recently launched SolidShop, which complements the SolidCAM Ecosystem for Manufacturing. SolidShop provides Gcode editing, Gcode solid verification, a PDM for all machine shop data, DNC communication and monitoring of CNC machines, and job scheduling in the machine shop.
