A huge congratulations to all the new panelists! Your voices are vital in advocating for those affected by misophonia, and we can't wait to see the impact you will make together. 💪✨ Let's support each other in raising awareness and creating a more inclusive environment for everyone. Exciting news! An interesting study on #misophonia is on its way to being published. This study is studying how measuring eyeball pupillary response can help us test #misophonic reactions. The preprint title is "The impact of disgusting sounds on pupil diameter of misophonic and non-misophonic listeners." by by Urszula Oszczapinska , Sungjoon Park, Yuqi Qiu, Bridget Nance, Megan Julien, and Laurie Heller This study was funded by Misophonia Research Fund and also a soQuiet Misophonia Student #Research grant. The Misophonia Research Fund annual meeting was a splendid event where top researchers, clinicians, and people who experience misophonia delved into the current state of misophonia knowledge and awareness, the challenges being faced, and which directions we need to go in order to uncover more about misophonia. We were delighted to be invited, to share our stories, and to meet so many people we've worked with for years but had never met in person before. There is hope and some outstanding minds are on the case.
What a whirlwind these past two days have been at the #MRFAnnualMeeting! We heard four dynamic scientific sessions on #misophonia presented by our funded investigators, dove deep into mechanisms, diagnoses, and synthesized an exciting roadmap ahead! A huge thank you to our dedicated funded investigators for making this meeting a success! Thank you also to all of the #misophonia artists whose work we were able to showcase during the meeting. Shoutout to Empowered Nonprofits and theWit Chicago for crafting a space conducive for these impactful conversations. Another thank you to soQuiet Misophonia Advocacy for bringing the lived experience perspective. We’re already counting down to the 2025 #MRFAnnualMeeting!

We recently attended a #disability employment summit and, while disability inclusion in employment has improved, we still have a long way to go. This October, we honor the contributions of individuals with disabilities, both visible and not visible, in the workplace. We advocate for inclusive hiring practices and accommodating workplaces. Let's work together to create more accessible and equitable employment opportunities for everyone. 💪✨ Join us in promoting awareness, understanding, and opportunities for all. We were so honored to be invited to the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center's “Hands-on Evening with Washington University Investigators: #Neurodevelopmental Disorders” at the beautiful new Jeffrey T. Fort #Neuroscience Building. We got to meet some amazing #researchers whose work intersects with the #misophonia research we support. We learned about their latest studies on #sensory over-responsivity, emotion regulation, and much more! We looked at mouse #brains under a microscope, talked about people who are born without a Corpus Callosum, and had some great discussions about sensory disorders and where research on them needs to go. Thank you to the staff for reaching out to us to represent the #misosphere at their wonderful event. We are looking forward to partnering with them more in the future. #autism #adhd #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #brainhealth #brainresearch #neuroscientist #brainscience #neuroscienceresearch #sensoryprocessing #sensoryoverresponsivity #occupationaltherapy #stl #stlouis

Join us on October 16th for a special #science session with Sumeet M. Jaswal, the only #researcher actively studying #misokinesia, a condition which causes atypical emotional and physiological responses to seeing visual movements. Little is known about misokinesia, but it is likely not a rare disorder. Free event. Online. Registation required. Another day, another conference! Today we are at the BCI Disability Transition Planning conference. Incredibly, many of the people we have spoken with HAVE HEARD OF MISOPHONIA! This is a change even from last year where we were educating about #misophonia. Now, we are telling other organizations, teachers, caregivers, etc. about how we help people whose lives are affected by misophonia. The word is getting out and people are excited to know how we can work with them. Glad to be back at this fantastic event again this year. #misophoniaawareness #disability #neurodiversity #socialwork #stlouis

The #misosphere has voted and it seems the majority of us prefer #peoplefirst language when we are being referred to. Do you think that terms like "misophones" and "misos" are good for casual discussion in the #misophonia community but prefer the more formal "people with misophonia" in research and media publications? Tell us your thoughts in the comments! #disabilityinclusion #disabilityrights #invisibleillness #neurodiversity #InclusiveLanguage #PeopleFirstLanguage #IdentityFirstLanguage #DisabilityTerminology
