This past weekend, several SOSi team members ventured out to Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C. to participate in the annual Iraqi Children Foundation (ICF) "In Their Shoes" 5K Run/Walk. Since 2009, as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, ICF has intervened to better over a million children who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect, and exploitation by criminals, traffickers, and extremists. ICF also invests in the training and capacity building of Iraqis to provide legal protection, education, nutrition, medical care, psychological services, and rejuvenating the joys of childhood fun. As a company with a long history of service in the Middle East, SOSi recognizes the profound impact that organizations like ICF have on the ground. This National Hispanic Heritage Month, we're excited to spotlight Karen Minjares, Operations Supervisor in our Civil Solutions team in El Paso. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, and raised in Macau, China, Karen brings a unique multicultural perspective to SOSi. With Portuguese and Colombian heritage, she embodies diversity in action. Karen manages a team of 41 interpreters and two Operations Coordinators, ensuring Spanish hearing coverage nationwide. She also spearheads interpreter training, collaborating with the Southern California School of Interpretation. Karen keeps her heritage alive through Colombian cuisine, New Year's traditions, and her passion for soccer — cheering for both Colombia and Portugal! As a Zumba instructor, she shares her love for dance with others. We're proud of Karen's dedication, adaptability, and the rich cultural tapestry she weaves into our team. We're proud to have participated in the Herndon Neighborhood Resources Center (HNRC) Wellness Resource Fair last week as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Our team members from SOSi Intelligence Solutions volunteered as translators, supporting over 20 government and private agencies in providing vital services to our community. The event offered free health assessments, dental checkups, and resources for mental health and Alzheimer's awareness. We're honored to have played a role in breaking down language barriers, ensuring all community members could access these crucial services. In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we're proud to spotlight Mariel Matos Diaz, Operations Manager in our Civil Solutions unit. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mariel joined SOSi in December 2022. She manages 97 processing coordinators across seven Border Patrol Stations in the Tucson Sector, collaborating closely with clients to meet their needs and expectations. Mariel values SOSi's positive work environment and strong leadership, which she says enhances her effectiveness as a leader and mentor. She maintains her Puerto Rican heritage through frequent visits home, especially during holidays, sharing authentic dishes with friends, and filling her home with Spanish music.
