Sound Physicians is historically known as a physician practice of hospitalists, emergency medicine clinicians, critical care clinicians, anesthesia, and telemedicine, but over the past several years, we've heavily focused on value-based care. In this blog, Dr. Thomas Kim, Chief Medical Officer, Sound Long-Term Care Management, talks about the importance of long-term care accountable care organizations (ACOs) and their benefits to long-term care patients. He breaks down the care model for Sound’s ACO and explains how they support participating physicians to achieve better outcomes. Medicine is as much an art as it is a science, and throughout history, many incredible medical breakthroughs have come about via trial and error. In this episode, April Burke, PA-C, MMS and Alicia Scheffer quiz one another on some interesting wonders to have made a mark on healthcare history. Play along, test your knowledge, and (hopefully) learn something new! We’re truly grateful to have Dr. Drey Pavlov bringing better to the bedside for his patients at MultiCare Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. "The nurses were outstanding. I felt well cared for,” said one of Dr. Pavlov’s patients. “[He] went over and above for my health issues. He ... has a passion for his patients’ well-being. I've never met a doctor like him who has so much compassion and empathy." Thank you, Dr. Pavlov, for your dedication and for making such a positive impact on your patients' lives! #BringingBetterToTheBedside

After more than a decade of success with Sound’s hospital medicine program, a Southwestern U.S. hospital system awarded Sound Physicians the emergency medicine (EM) and hospital Medicine (HM) service lines for another of its hospitals. As with any transition from employed to outsourced groups, issues may arise. This hospital transition — which included the EM and HM physicians who were previously part of the hospital’s multispecialty group — presented a few of those challenges. Learn how our emergency and hospital medicine teams navigated the complex hospital transition by following the link here: https://bit.ly/4cFYpIT

The hospital business is more challenging than ever, with rising costs and declining reimbursements creating an unsustainable financial situation. In this environment, partnering with those who truly understand hospital operations is critical. While ICUs may not be major revenue generators, they play a vital role in supporting high-revenue specialties and providing life-saving care.     Sound Critical Care exemplifies this partnership, as seen in our work at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital, where Dr. Jaber Monla-Hassan led a project resulting in zero readmissions due to medication side effects for over three years. This initiative not only improved patient care but also saved the hospital hundreds of thousands of dollars.     Learn how we're making a difference for hospitals nationwide by following the blog link in the comments.

Anesthesiologists play an important role in keeping patients safe and comfortable during medical procedures. Recent advancements in anesthesia have significantly improved patient care, particularly in reducing hospital length of stay (LOS). Shorter hospital stays enhance patient recovery by allowing them to heal at home, and reducing risks such as emotional distress, infections, and immobility. Shorter hospital stays also benefit hospitals by conserving supplies, cutting costs, and improving patient access. Our innovative anesthesia care focuses on reducing LOS and facility readmissions, with a focus on three key areas: >Pain management >Collaboration >Workflow efficiency By championing these, our anesthesia teams make a significant impact on patient outcomes and hospital efficiency. Discover how these efforts are transforming patient care by following the link in the comments.

Our business development team recently came together in Tacoma, Washington, for building business strategy and collegiality. For some, it was their first time to the Pacific Northwest, or the PNW — and it offered some much-needed context for why Sound is called Sound. Tacoma, a port city, is situated on Puget Sound — along with its bigger-city neighbor, Seattle. The team enjoyed views of all the PNW classics: the Sound, Mt. Rainier, and, of course, Pike Place’s legendary fish market. We’re lucky to have such an incredible team that shows up for each other and for all of Sound. Cheers to forging strong bonds, inspiring new ideas, and staying true to our mission of bringing better to the bedside.
