Here are five ways to engage your manager during your journey as a Sounding Board coachee: ✔️Reflect and Identify Opportunities: Pause and think about your leadership development and how your manager can support you. Getting clear about what you need will help you engage more effectively. ✔️Manage Up: Let your manager know when your #LeadershipCoaching starts, and ask them to provide feedback through the Sounding Board Manager Perspective survey and the two checkpoints they receive throughout your engagement. It proactively keeps them in the loop and shows you're taking charge of your development. ✔️Share Your Goals: Sharing a goal with your manager boosts visibility and collaboration and highlights the insights you’re having about your development. Focus on goals that align with team objectives, opportunities your manager has identified for you directly, or areas where your manager’s guidance can help. ✔️Get the Most Out of Your 1:1s: Set aside dedicated time for ongoing alignment conversations to share how your thinking, mindset, and behavior are shifting from your development through coaching. Invite them to provide you with their observations and feedback in real-time so you can see if the shifts you are making are having the desired impact within the organization. ✔️Help Your Manager Help You: Your manager’s juggling a lot. Introduce them to tools like the Manager Dashboard, where they can quickly view, engage with, and proactively support your leadership development journey.
