For those of us recovering from Helene and for our neighbors to the south in the path of Milton; there are programs designed to help, use them. ❤️

As we recover from the impact of Hurricane Helene, I want to remind everyone about the AVMF Disaster Relief Grants available to support veterinary team members and animals affected by natural disasters. There are two types of grants available: 1. **Disaster Relief Grants for Veterinary Professionals**- for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary or vet tech students, or staff member at a veterinary practice needing assistance with incurred emergency expenses for necessities as a result of the disaster. Covers expenses related to food, bottled water, clothing, medication or medical supplies, toiletries, blankets, or temporary shelter. 2. **Disaster Animal Care Reimbursement Grant** – to help cover costs associated with caring for displaced animals. To learn more about eligibility and apply click below. If you have received support from these grants in the past or if you would like to contribute, you can pay it forward here: https://lnkd.in/eFBJ_mzv #DisasterRelief #VeterinarySupport #AVMF #HurricaneHelene #AVMA

My thoughts are with the communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. Here in the upstate and across the region, people and their pets are suffering. Clemson University has posted a comprehensive list of resources to aid in recovery. I'll link that below. I'll also share other helpful resources in the comments below. Stay strong!

One day late because things have been a little bananas (and by bananas, I mean #Helene) in South Carolina lately. September 28 was World Rabies Day and rabies continues to be relevant in the US and South Carolina today. #vaccinationssavelives #worldrabiesday #scav #scveterinarians #scdvms
Today is #WorldRabiesDay and this year's theme is "Breaking rabies boundaries,” which highlights that One Health is not for a selected few but for everyone. Here are some key takeaways from our "Rabies in the U.S." infographic. ✔️ The total cases in animals decreased in 2022 compared to 2021 by 2.3% - the third straight year cases decreased 🦇 Bats were the most frequently reported rabid animal in the U.S. in 2022. Over 1/3 of animal rabies cases in the U.S. in 2022 were bats. 0️⃣ Human cases of rabies in the U.S. in 2022 Remember, the best way to protect your animals from this deadly disease is through vaccination and to keep them away from wildlife that can spread the disease.
