About us

The South Carolina Trucking Association is a nonprofit trade organization that represents all the various parties constituting South Carolina's vibrant trucking industry. Our mission is to advocate, educate and collaborate for successful trucking operations in SC. The association was first formed in the 1930s when truck operators found it necessary to do collectively what they could not do individually. Since its inception, the SCTA has been dedicated to the protection, support, and enrichment of its collective membership, while promoting good public policy.

Updates

  • FMCSA's Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is entering its second phase, known as "Clearinghouse-II," on November 18, 2024. This crucial update requires State Driver Licensing Agencies to revoke commercial driving privileges from individuals with a "prohibited" status in the Clearinghouse until they complete the return-to-duty process. To prepare, companies should: • Run regular Clearinghouse queries on drivers • Ensure all drivers are enrolled in a compliant DOT testing program • Maintain accurate records of all queries and tests • Inform drivers of the consequences of non-compliance Additionally, implementing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Monitoring can help companies stay ahead of potential CDL revocations. With over 175,000 drivers currently holding "prohibited" statuses, it's essential for SCTA members to act now to ensure compliance and maintain their workforce. https://lnkd.in/dwte6_wG

  • SCTA's recent local socials were a big success! Members from around the state joined us in Columbia, Greenville, and Florence for three evenings of networking, learning, and - of course - enjoying some delicious craft beer and great food. At each event, attendees had the opportunity to connect with their peers, SCTA staff, and special guests from State Transport Police, dealerships, insurance providers, and even local legislators/candidates. Together, we discussed crucial topics like the upcoming elections, our 2025 legislative agenda, and the latest regulatory updates. But most importantly, we listened to the challenges you're facing and how we can better support your business. Your feedback is invaluable as we work to shape the future of our industry. Thank you to our generous event sponsors (Alliance Interstate Risk, Bunch Truck Group, Excel Truck Group, Thermo King of Greenville, and Shealy's Truck Centers) and to everyone who joined us - it was wonderful to see so many familiar and new faces.

  • Effective October 17, SCDOT is implementing a temporary traffic shift on I-85 North at Exit 57 in Spartanburg County. Traffic will be maintained on Exit 57 but will be shifted away from the work zone. In addition to this shift, access to the airport from SC 14 North will be detoured to the next exit and will be routed south to the SC 14 exit. The changes to traffic are necessary for crews to complete work on the Exit 57 ramp from damage that happened during Hurricane Helene. The anticipated completion date is November 8.
