A network of people working together to uplift Columbus’ South Side.

About us

South Side Thrive Collaborative is a network of local leaders and organizations working together to identify and remove the interrelated barriers that prevent upward mobility among low-income individuals and families living on the South Side of Columbus. Our purpose is for the South Side to become a mosaic of strong and resilient communities where every resident has the opportunity to thrive. We do this by: *Understanding the needs of the community and the barriers that prevent upward mobility. *Amplifying the impact of our network through support and communication. *Improving residents’ ability to access and use available resources. *Maximizing investments made in the community through education and collaboration.

  • 🌟 600 + people engaged in the South Side! As residents of the South Side themselves, the Resident Ambassadors encouraged neighbors, talked to youth, connected people to food, taught residents about getting and using health insurance, showed them resources, and more. Please join us in celebrating their impact made in the community this year! Here’s a glimpse into the work they did to support their neighbors health and wellness. ➡ ➡

  • ✨”When we can better understand the behavior, then we begin to work together to offer a space for curiosity and connection.”✨ Yesterday we hosted a Trauma Informed Care training with staff from several organizations serving the South Side. This session gave participants knowledge and tools to support individuals healing and resiliency. Thank you to our trainer, Londale Towns Sr with Columbus Public Health CARE Coalition, and all attendees for coming together!

  • Last week, youth made their final presentation about their summer with us! Despite feeling nervous about public speaking for the first time, the students did remarkable! As one student said - "listening to the guest speaker’s talk about their career paths made me realize that everyone’s path looks different and there is no right or wrong direction.... if we focus on the things we do care about, we can know our skills and strengths. That will help us choose a career in the future." Their futures are bright ✨

Our Upward Bound Math & Science students have been busy this summer! During their annual symposium, they showed off their poster presentations about STEM topics, artwork, songwriting and their future college choices. They also presented about their internships and beautification data collection project with the South Side Thrive Collaborative. 🔬Learn more about the Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) program: https://bit.ly/46jdYno #CollaboratoryforKidsandCommunityHealth #STEM

We are thrilled to once again host a group of South Side youth for a summer internship in partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital! ☀️ Through hands-on activities, these future STEM leaders are learning how to tackle the social determinants of health and make a real impact. 🌳 Each week, youth spend time in different areas of the South Side to observe and document the conditions of streets, alleys, and sidewalks, as well as the prevalence of litter, trees, and green space. Through their data collection on community conditions, youth identify and demonstrate improvement needs. In years past, students data resulted in new trees being planted at Karns Park thanks to our collaboration with Green Columbus ⭐️ We’re inspired by their passion and bright futures!

  • In an effort to better connect the community with resources, we launched our popular Resident Ambassador Program this month! As South Side resident themselves, Resident Ambassadors serve as a trusted voice to the community and provide valuable information to neighbors that increase their awareness and use of local resources. They engage their neighbors on healthy lifestyles, workforce resources, and local services that promote health and well-being. In 2023, Ambassadors engaged over 1,000 residents with information. Stay tuned for the impact of their work!
