The 2024 Southern California Demographic Workshop gathered over 460 attendees to discuss the future of Southern California in a new era of slower population growth. This 35th annual event, presented by SCAG and the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy at the SCAG offices in Downtown Los Angeles, featured panels, roundtable discussions, and a keynote speaker. Highlights of the 2024 Southern California Demographic Workshop also included the presentation and publication of a new report by SCAG demographers providing insight into American Community Survey data released earlier in September by the U.S. Census Bureau. The 2024 Southern California Demographic Workshop opened this morning with remarks from SCAG Regional Council President Curt Hagman and a welcome from Prof. Dowell Myers from the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. Now in its 35th year, the workshop features data-driven discussion about demographic trends to inform the future of communities, mobility, the environment, and the economy.

SCAG Chief Operating Officer Darin Chidsey and Chief Planning Officer Sarah Jepson represented SCAG at the annual Mobility 21 Summit, participating in panel discussions related to federal and state funding and the human equation in transportation innovation. Several SCAG staff, Regional Council members, and policy committee members were also in attendance.

SCAG Regional Council President and San Bernardino County Supervisor Curt Hagman and SCAG Executive Director Kome Ajise represented SCAG at the ITS World Congress in Dubai this week. Pres. Hagman participated in a panel about leveraging connected and automated vehicles (CAV) to improve fuel economy. President Hagman spoke about priorities for his leadership at SCAG regarding emerging technologies in the region, addressing transportation technology regionwide and in state policies and projects. Kome participated in a panel on electrification, which is rapidly emerging as a frontline solution in the global battle against climate change.
