Were you at this year’s SIHC Diabetes Day fair? Every year, we host a diabetes event for one day in Alpine and another day in Campo to help our diabetic patients take control of their lives. This year, the event offered diabetic follow-ups, eye exams, foot exams, bloodwork, and vaccinations. Free lunch, gifts, and other resources were also provided to make it a great day for everyone in attendance. Someone once said, “Diabetes is not a choice, but how I live with it is.” That’s why we do everything we can at SIHC to help you live a happy and free life with diabetes. Our SDPI program (Special Diabetes Program for Indians) is always available to assist you and anyone you may know with diabetes. Please reach out to us and we can answer any questions you may have regarding our diabetes program: SDPI vsteele@sihc.org | (619) 445-1188 Ext. 132 vchavez@sihc.org | (619) 445-1188 Ext. 122

Mental Health Tip found in our Q2 Newsletter Our daily food choices not only influence our physical health but also play a crucial role in our mood and emotional well-being. Research suggests that certain nutrients can directly impact brain chemistry, affecting neurotransmitter levels that regulate mood. Here are some dietary tips to help boost your mood through nutrition: - Complex Carbohydrates - Omega-3 Fatty Acids - Lean Proteins - Fruits and Vegetables - Healthy Fats - Hydration - Limit Sugar and Processed Foods - Moderation and Balance Incorporating these nutrient-rich foods into your daily diet can help support a stable mood, reduce feelings of anxiety or depression, and improve overall mental clarity and focus. Remember, small changes in your diet can lead to great improvements in how you feel physically and emotionally. Written by Amy Allen, LMFT, Mental Health Therapist at @sihc_org

Who’s excited for next year’s Native Women For Change? On April 24, we held our annual Native Women for Change event featuring an expert panel, a therapeutic sound bath, delicious food, and more. This event’s purpose is to amplify the experiences and aspirations of Native women everywhere and this year we were joined by domestic violence experts Joanna Vigil, Keely Linton, Dr. Vanessa Rodriguez, and Claudia Grasso. Each panelist shared their truth and answered questions to help educate and empower all in attendance. We believe the path to overcoming injustices begins with a journey inwards towards self-discovery and a realization of one’s own inherent power. Together, we are creating a future where Native women are empowered to shape their own destinies and make meaningful contributions to the world around them.
