🧠 When sensory information (like sights, sounds, or textures) enters the brain, modulation ensures that the body responds in a balanced way. Children who struggle with sensory modulation may have difficulty adapting to changes in their environment or daily routines. They may become upset or overwhelmed in situations where sensory input is too high, such as in noisy classrooms, busy playgrounds, or crowded malls. Alternatively, they might seek out activities or environments that provide the intense sensory input they crave, leading to challenges in focusing or behaving appropriately in quieter settings. Occupational Therapists work on improving sensory modulation by creating individualized sensory strategies, often through a sensory diet.
