Thank you to all who attended last month's Cornhole for Kids tournament at Barrel House Z in Weymouth! This year's event raised more than $7,100 for South Shore Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Joseph & Mildred Finnell Family Pediatric Unit, and Maternal Fetal Medicine Division. Teams of all ages vied for the bragging rights that came with winning the tournament, with the title eventually claimed by Team Ray-Ray – congratulations! Along with our attendees, we were fortunate to be joined by many caregivers from our Parent-Child Division, some of whom were able to reconnect with former patients who were in attendance. We're grateful to all of our attendees and sponsors, and we send a special "thank you" to Meghan Lavery, Jimmy Chung, and Bryan Duong, who served as our event committee. We appreciate your support! "South Shore Hospital absolutely saved my life. Most C3 and C4 fractures, which is what I had, don't live to give this interview...I can only attribute it to the care that I received at South Shore Hospital." Ed suffered life-threatening injuries in a mountain biking accident at Wompatuck State Park. Thanks to timely surgery and intensive care at South Shore Hospital, Ed survived his injuries and began his recovery – a remarkable journey that saw him discharged from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital just three months after his accident. As a critical resource for the entire South Shore, we're pleased to share that we recently upgraded our Cath Lab with renovated rooms and new equipment! "This investment not only enhances our current capabilities, but also allows us to expand the range of services and procedures we can offer – ensuring our community receives the most advanced cardiac care available," said Tim Lynch, MBA, Vice President of Medicine, Critical Care, and Perioperative Services. Did you know that August is #BreastfeedingAwarenessMonth? At South Shore Health, we're proud to support breastfeeding moms with an expert, compassionate team of International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants, more commonly known as IBCLCs. Our IBCLCs, not all of whom are pictured here, care for patients at South Shore Hospital and South Shore VNA: ➡️ At the Hospital, IBCLCs consult with clinical teams and patients in a number of settings, including on our Mother-Infant Unit, in the Emergency Department, on our inpatient floors, and in our Messina Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). ➡️ In a Home Care setting, our South Shore VNA IBCLCs offer one-on-one support and encouragement to patients in the comfort of their homes. Along with serving as a resource to both breastfeeding moms and their fellow caregivers, our IBCLCs are expert educators, running our Lactation Support Group and responding to questions on our Warm Line.
