We’ve teamed up with Transition Labs to announce a pioneering agreement to deliver space-based solar power to Reykjavik Energy by 2030. We are set to be operational by 2030 with an initial capacity of 30 MW, marking a groundbreaking step in the global transition to sustainable energy, with this partnership poised to accelerate the shift toward Net Zero. Our Co-CEO, Martin Soltau on the news, “Space-based solar power offers unparalleled benefits with competitive energy costs and 24/7 availability. “Reykjavik Energy’s recognition of the potential for space-based solar to drive the energy transition is exciting, and we’re thrilled to be working together in partnership toward a sustainable future.” The full story has been featured in The Times this weekend 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eRPasMBC #SBSP #Sustainability #NetZero Orkuveitan

Honoured to be part of a lively and enjoyable panel discussion at the Caltech Entrepreneurs Forum about the future of our energy system, superbly organised and hosted by Scott Sugino and Stan Tomsic. Fascinating insights into improvements in transmission cable technologies to help with the massive scale-up needed in grid infrastructure; the huge energy demands of our water distribution networks and the interdependence of water and energy; and space-based solar power as game-changing energy technology delivering all-weather baseload and dispatchable power. Space Solar is working to make this a commercial reality within five years – much sooner than most people imagine. Our policymakers need to think of how the whole energy generation and transmission system works, plan for disruptive emerging technologies on the near horizon, and avoid thinking in technology silos, or we will make poor decisions. Space-based solar power will deliver continuous all-weather baseload and dispatchable power at a very competitive cost, but it is even more compelling when you consider how well it integrates with other energy tech. It delivers a massive £500M of system savings for every GW of space-based solar power introduced into the system according to findings by Imperial College London. That’s because we don’t need to overbuild the weather dependent wind and solar renewables; we don’t need duplicated (expensive) sources of backup power or storage for when it's not windy or sunny; we don’t need the massive expansion in grid infrastructure (pylons and cables) as space-based solar power can wirelessly beam power closer to the points of demand; and it can generate strong returns from exporting energy via wireless power beaming without the need for expensive fixed interconnector cables. We must invest in innovation which is the only route to delivering the energy transition with affordable and reliable power for all. Thank you to the other panelists and a fantastic audience for a very engaging Q&A and a lot of good conversations after the forum. Peter T. 📸 Co-CEO Martin Soltau at the Herrington Carmichael Tech Roundtable. It was fantastic to join twelve other companies for a discussion on growth within the tech sector and share our own experiences in developing as a startup. 📍 One key challenge for young businesses in tech is securing funding for breakthrough technologies. With longer return cycles for early-stage organisations, attracting private investors willing to support the future of tech remains a hurdle. Thank you so much for inviting us to the conversation, The Business Magazine - South East and Herrington Carmichael LLP . #SBSP #Sustainability #Investment Great to meet everyone who attended: Darren Cheeseright Procode ; Stuart Weekes Crowe UK ; Raj Raghavan Rootquotient ; James Harcourt Novatura ; Ian Cruickshank Spectrum IT Recruitment ; Michelle McClean Hampshire County Council ; Gemma Hood Culturehood ; Tiago Veiga Aurum Solutions ; Thomas Dodd entrust IT Group ; Madhur Srivastava DocHQ ; Matt Lea, Mark Chapman, Stephen Baker - Litigation Solicitor Herrington Carmichael LLP ; Stephen Jones AND Digital .
