About us
At Spectrum, our mission is to empower teenagers, young adults, people with a history of violence, and their families to make and sustain positive changes through prevention, intervention, and life skills services. Founded in 1970, Spectrum is a nationally recognized leader in helping youth ages 12-26 and their families turn their lives around. Each year, we serve 2,000 teenagers, young adults, people with a history of violence, and their family members. Our programs include: Basic Needs and Supportive Housing: We provide necessities like a warm place to get a meal or do laundry, along with an emergency shelter and longer term transitional housing for homeless or at-risk youth and those in or aging out of foster care. Skills Programs: We offer coaching and mentoring for young people on basic life and survival skills, such as getting an education, finding and keeping a job, finding a place to live, or getting a driver’s license so that they can transition successfully to adulthood. Prevention and Intervention: Through counseling, we help young people address substance abuse, mental health issues, patterns of violence, and other critical issues that stand in the way of a happy, thriving adulthood. A mentoring program helps build the self-esteem of youth.

✨STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Meet Rebecca! 🔦 Rebecca Majoya is the director of our Mentoring Program here at Spectrum. Last year, Rebecca was recognized by Mentor Vermont for her positive collaboration with other mentoring programs in the state. We are SO grateful for the work that Rebecca does for youth in our community. Her hard work, positivity and infectious laughter add so much to the Spectrum team! "Rebecca is the best supervisor I’ve ever had! She cares about our youth on so many different levels from their physical and mental well being, to their school performance, to the navigation of the current political climate. "Do I wish that 'Called' had sold millions of copies, maybe even been made into a movie or documentary or something? Of course I do. I’m human. I would have liked that. Actually, I would have loved that.But the reality is that I got something greater, something no best-seller designation could ever achieve: my book helped to save a life. It reminded someone that he was bigger than his addiction. It reminded someone of who he once was, and who he might yet become again. It helped to get him out of the world of meth, heroin, exploitation, manipulation, sex trafficking and everything else that goes along with it. So yes, I now know why I spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on my book. It was for Matthew."

My favorite event of the year is next Thursday! You get a ceramic bowl to keep, and one of our celebrity soup servers fills it with soup donated by the best local restaurants (who also donate bread, salad, and dessert). We keep the speeches to a minimum and get you out by 7:30 full of delicious food - and that warm and fuzzy feeling you get from knowing you helped teens and young adults get help when they needed it most.
