We’re thrilled to announce that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded Sperra a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) project with UC San Diego to develop innovative concrete torpedo anchors for Dolphin Labs Ocean’ xNode(TM) wave energy converter (WEC). This project tackles one of the biggest challenges in the offshore and marine energy industry: scalable, cost-effective mooring and anchoring solutions. By creating low-cost, environmentally friendly torpedo anchors, we’re enabling faster, more efficient WEC deployments. Plus, our anchors can be manufactured in U.S. ports using local materials and workforces. This funding will help us accelerate the adoption of marine hydrokinetic energy, making it a more viable, cost-competitive renewable energy source. #Sperra #WaveEnergy

💡Innovation Highlight💡 On June 26, Sperra attended the Rapid + TCT event in Anaheim, the largest additive manufacturing and industrial 3D printing event in North America. Our team was thrilled to collaborate with Mitsubishi Chemical Group, using our new CEAD plastic pellet extruder to print a subscale prototype of a plastic mold for casting concrete torpedo anchor fins. Mitsubishi's material was a hit at their booth, and we received amazing feedback on the print—especially considering we had just one week and no time to practice with the material.
