For some time, I have contemplated why healthcare is so adverse to change.  Especially when the known result is improved patient outcomes through the enhancement of workstreams and actionable information.  I would contend that the greatest obstacle to change is not simply competing technologies or solutions, but the “Inertia of the Status Quo”. Inertia…a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged.  The inherent property of a body that makes it oppose any force that would cause a change in its motion.  The lack of activity or interest, or unwillingness to make an effort to do anything. Healthcare systems and supporting functions are plagued by organizational inertia.  The inability to change direction simply because of the momentum that already exists is not a reason to limit innovation.
