CBS Sports is kicking off their second season of Big Ten Conference football. Despite losing their SEC slot, the momentum is going strong with high profile games like USC vs. Michigan and more, as new teams have joined the conference this year. With this new partnership, comes a new scorebug, which was first aired during Super Bowl LVIII. The change will continue throughout the season and required a third mobile unit to be added the fleet. On the stadium side, new cameras are bolstering the story telling with the addition of two hard cameras — a super slo-mo and a second sideline cart to provide coverage on both the near and far sideline — and a 4K zoomable camera in the high end zone position. There will also be the use of Skycam’s calibrated gimbal to support steady camera tracking used for AR graphics. “We’ll have a lot of the technical enhancements that were prominent on the SEC. We have the best production and technical teams that cover college football in the business, so we look at it as taking this coverage and moving it to another conference.” - Steve Karasik F&F Productions, LLC | Silver Spoon 🏈 : https://lnkd.in/eeR2BVxz

The sports-video-production industry is on the fringe of college football frenzy. Programs around the country are fine-tuning their technologies and getting their control rooms set for multiple months of linear and digital broadcasts, in-venue shows, and more. Playing games in the highly-contested Big Ten Conference, the University of Minnesota upgraded their facility to a SMPTE 2110-powered environment with the help of Imagine Communications. In this in-depth conversation, University of Minnesota’s Broadcast Engineer of Gopher Digital Productions, Jake Davis, and Imagine Communications’ Business Solutions Manager of Sports, Jimbo Haneklau, break down how the university leverages these IP-based workflows and how his team is meeting the demands of live production for their packed schedule of varsity sports events. 🏈 : https://lnkd.in/e8B6yTvv

Continuing with the Olympic spirit, the 2024 Paralympics are in full force beginning with today’s opening ceremonies. The crew at NBC Sports is continuing their heavy pull for the games, with an estimated 1,500 hours of coverage across 20+ sports on Peacock, using fan favorite features such as GoldZone and Multiview. The trickiest part about the Paralympics is that the timing aligns with kickoffs of fall sports programming, making it a tricky and exciting time for the production team. At the center of the Paralympics coverage will be all the VANDA feeds provided by OBS which will begin their journey to Stamford via the IBC in Paris where the operations have shrunk but are no less critical. In regards to commentary, NBC talent will be utilized with a mix of OBS commentary all accommodating the VANDA feeds. Venues that were also seen during the 2024 Olympics will be converted into new sports fields and spaces, allowing the iconic scenery to maintain its role. This Sunday, NASCAR peels into Darlington for the final race of the Cup Series regular season: the Cook Out Southern 500. It’s been a banner year for the behind-the-scenes teams at NASCAR Productions and NASCAR Studios as, earlier this year, the auto racing giant opened a brand new 58,000-sq.-ft. media production facility in Concord, NC. Among the many introductions to the organization’s live event workflows is an innovative approach to media management. To increase efficiency and boost its production capabilities, NASCAR implemented Perfect Memory’s Cognitive Asset Management (CAM) solution into its central production environment earlier this year. The CAM system, which is being utilized for all post-production MAM needs, can fully integrate with NASCAR’s data APIs for live and archival metadata of the sport. In this exclusive presentation, Chris Wolford, Managing Director, Media & Event Technology at NASCAR shares how this innovative “MAM-as-a-Brain” approach allows NASCAR to process, enrich, and search for content more easily thanks to auto-generated metadata and a next-gen search engine. 🏎 : https://lnkd.in/gfZ2jWet

As a licensed mental health counselor, Lisa D. had lots of experience assessing alcohol disorders. Nevertheless, she says, “it's somehow different when it's your own child.” When her daughter, Logan, had a seizure late one night in her college dorm, medical tests revealed unexpected results. “The doctor said she had the liver of a hard drinker,” Lisa recounts. She and her husband, Pat, were shocked. They knew Logan had experienced some mental health challenges, but not this. Cloud production workflows are revolutionizing the live sports production industry and a popular platform of choice has become Microsoft Azure. Major media organizations like the NBA (which leverages Azure for the NBA App) are turning to the hyper-scale platform to deliver live-production tools in the cloud, including utilizing generative AI to drive fan engagement and get the most out of the league’s active and archival media. In this special presentation, Scott Bounds, Microsoft’s Senior Director, Data & AI Technical shares how cloud-based production and personalized viewing experiences enhance sports broadcasting worldwide. ☁ : https://lnkd.in/eCX4RTzf
