🌊 August is National Water Quality Month! 🌊 Did you know it was founded in 2005 by the EPA and the UN to ensure clean, safe drinking water? The journey began with the Clean Water Act (CWA) of 1972 and the Safe Drinking Water Act (SWDA) of 1974, which laid the groundwork for protecting our waterways. Even in our National Parks, 52% of streams are considered "impaired." Unsafe water affects both aquatic life and human health, with concerns over pathogens on the rise. Only 1% of Earth's water is easily accessible, making its protection crucial. The SDWA helps by providing standards, collecting data, and overseeing state programs. What can you do? Turn off the water when not in use.🚰 Use a rain barrel.🛢️ Avoid phosphorus fertilizers. Adopt a watershed.
