Great content by our friends at Spring Point Partners highlighting the importance of community and sharing the voice and perspective of young adults in this area! Being young does not equal the absence of substance, so take the time to listen. You never know what you might learn!

“What exists in your community that allows teens to explore things they enjoy doing? Does it offer opportunities for them to connect with other young people and develop lasting relationships with other adults in their community?” In a conversation with the Center for Parent and Teen Communication, Dr. Shauna Cooper shares tips for helping BIPOC young people build connections with their communities, including the importance of parents modeling maintaining a positive sense of mental health and well-being. https://lnkd.in/exQXEeW4

Congratulations to Hive grantee partner YEAH Philly’s team of young people who were selected as the winners of a recent social media pitch competition through Project Unloaded. Black children are disproportionately affected by gun violence in Philadelphia – a reality causing long-term trauma. By using their voices as teens affected by violence, these young people could make a real impact on the futures of their peers in Philadelphia and beyond. https://lnkd.in/exNbsjBP
Non-profit Executive | 2023 City & State Women in Merit Above & Beyond Award | 2019 Social Worker of the Year
We came. We pitched. We won. Through a pitch competition, YEAH Philly brought teens from across the city together to create social media content related to how guns impact our lives in Philadelphia. The summer programming gave 30 young people a chance to step outside their comfort zone and do something differently while learning about the realities of violence we deal with on a daily basis. Adolescence is a time of possibility, exploration, and opportunity. This week, we've been having great conversations with our friends at Spring Point Partners and UCLA Center for the Developing Adolescent about how to talk about adolescence and help our #youngpeople thrive. Here are a few highlights!
-
"Guidance is how we stay resilient." Research shows that people learn, grow and explore more in their teens than almost any other time in their lives. Let’s support our #youngpeople during these critical years.

Adolescence provides an unparalleled window of opportunity for our young people to enhance their lives today and shape their own futures. We are delighted to join UCLA Center for the Developing Adolescent, FrameWorks Institute and other partners for a week of convenings to learn about adolescent brain science and ways to design our programs for #YoungPeople to make healthy connections and create a positive sense of identity. Join our social justice partner Community Spring on September 27th in Gainesville, FL, for “Unmasking Meritocracy: Beyond the Self-Made Myth.” As part of the 2024 National Day of Action for Basic Income, they’re challenging the idea that success depends only on hard work and talent. View a gallery of photos and narratives that expose how structural inequities like wealth and education skew the playing field.
Is success truly based on hard work alone, or is the system designed to favor some people from the start? Join us on September 27th 7:00 - 10PM for 'Unmasking Meritocracy: Beyond the Self-Made Myth' and view the gallery of stories and images that challenge the myth of meritocracy.
