Our research shows that 30%+ of #ransomware events are correlated to infostealer #malware exposures. Cybercriminals are continuing to evolve their attack methods, changing the perimeter from the network to identities. Security teams need to act on malware-exposed users, devices, and applications – terminating stolen sessions and forcing password resets – before cybercriminals can exploit them. This week, in honor of Cyber Security Awareness Month we're sharing the first story, submitted for the approval of the SpyCloud Society...in our series, Are You Afraid of the Dark(web)? The Tale of the (Almost) Encrypted Empire. ☠️ Each week, we’ll share spooky security scenarios that would alarm even the most seasoned security professionals. Learn how #SpyCloud can be your trusted partner in protecting against lurking cyber threats that go bump in the night. Follow this page to stay up to date on each weekly tale: https://bit.ly/4eNCzUA and check your exposure at spycloud.com.

In our recent Malware and Ransomware Defense Report, we surveyed over 500 security professionals from across various industries to confirm that ransomware is still very much a real problem. Nearly ALL organizations surveyed were affected by #ransomware at least once last year. Our team has put together a fairly extensive Guide to Preventing Ransomware Attacks and one area you'll really want to focus if you're not already: Proper post-infection remediation procedures for #malware-infected users, given that 30%+ of ransomware events correlate to infostealer exposures in the weeks prior to the event. 🚨 Chrome Authentication Feature Bypass Alert🚨 Everyone in security always talks about “evolving” cybercriminal techniques, but this is a great example of the speed in which bad actors can adapt to new security controls. ⚠️ Less than 45 days after the announcement of Application-Bound Encryption for Chrome, #infostealer developers have implemented a way to bypass the new feature to exfiltrate authentication cookies. ⚠️ SpyCloud analysts reverse-engineered the bypass deployed in Phemedrone, an open-source infostealer, and can independently confirm the claims of a bypass. ⚠️While App-Bound Encryption is only enabled in Windows, this method also works to bypass Mac Keychain protections and Linux secret storage protections. Get the full details here, including what defenders should look for and how to stay protected: https://bit.ly/3TRx5Qz
