55 years ago the Wilmington/DuPont Brace was created in response to patients refusing use of the Milwaukee Brace and Risser Cast. A removable thermoplastic device for deformities with apices at-or-below T7 casted in a Risser frame in corrected position was the basis for this brace made from a cast mold. #ScoliosisHistory #WilmintonBrace #ScoliosisBrace #SRS #ScoliosisResearch Learn more on our historical timeline: https://lnkd.in/gWcNyBbR

Check out this article recap on predicting brace holiday eligibility in juvenile idiopathic scoliosis! Key Findings: ◽ Bracing compliance along treatment with minimum hours usage per day is significantly related to receiving brace holiday. ◽ In-brace correction (the more the better) and magnitude of primary curve (the lesser the better) is associated with receiving brace holiday along scoliosis treatment period. ◽ Holidays lasted over a year on average and a significant percentage of patients discontinuing brace treatment had to re-initiate bracing during that time. The significant factors that were associated with likelihood of receiving a brace holiday were bracing compliance, magnitude of primary curve (the lesser the better), BMI, and in-brace correction. Understanding how outcomes differ between patients who do and do not get brace holiday will be crucial to elucidating if the psychological benefit of taking a break from the brace can be justified.
