Resonance is thrilled to be participating in #NewYorkClimateWeek next week. This pivotal event serves as a platform for collaboration amongst global leaders that drives meaningful progress towards the realization of the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. As we delve into discussions around #climateresilience, we're looking forward to contributing to conversations around the intersection of #circularity and #climate. Did you know that plastics contribute approximately 3.4% of global greenhouse gas emissions? That's about 1.8 billion tons of CO2 equivalent annually. To tackle this systemic challenge, Resonance is the implementing partner of the CIRCLE Alliance, a public-private partnership between Unilever, USAID and EY. CIRCLE is driving circularity across South and Southeast Asia by enabling solutions that minimize plastic use and enhance #recycling. This initiative supports the #circulareconomy by empowering small and medium enterprises with innovative solutions that reduce plastic use, minimize waste, and promote gender responsive practices throughout the plastics value chain. We also recognize the significant impact of our #foodsystem and believe that agriculture plays a critical role in addressing climate change, contributing approximately 22% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This makes our food system an incredibly important lever in tackling the climate crisis. In our work with PepsiCo., under the Investing in Women Global Development Alliance (GDA), we empower women in agriculture by providing resources and training that lead to greater growth, profitability, and sustainability. By investing in women farmers, we increase the resilience of agricultural systems to climate variability, while promoting sustainable agronomic practices. As we connect with leaders and climate champions at #NYCW, we look forward to sharing insights around these topics and fostering new partnerships that have the potential drive change. We have been working with our partner Impact Hub Kigali to build up the conversation and network around circular food systems innovation in Rwanda under the Circular Food Systems for Rwanda project. The hospitality industry is an anchor within food systems value chains – but what role can hospitality giants play in leading systems change and how can food systems entrepreneurs link into these value chains? Exploring these questions, Impact Hub Kigali reached out to Radisson Blu Kigali, one of Kigali’s busiest hotels who are employing a host of different sustainable solutions to reduce waste and boost efficiency of their most critical resources and operations. Together they organized a Circularity Tour, where a diverse group of food systems actors toured their facilities and sustainable solutions. Pulling exemplary industry actors into the conversation is critical to identify gaps for innovation and build up the business case for circular solutions. We are grateful for our partnership with Impact Hub Kigali on the Circular Food Systems for Rwanda project and the ecosystem connections we are working together to facilitate in Rwanda. Ever wondered what happens to food waste at one of Kigali’s busiest hotels? Or how about the water that flows through the kitchen sinks? We explored Radisson Blu Kigali’s behind-the-scenes operations in our latest Circularity Series 9th edition_Circularity tour, and what we found was nothing short of inspiring.♻️ From turning leftover cooking oil into soap to recycling thousands of liters of water for cooling towers and irrigation, Radisson Blu is proving that eco-friendly isn’t just a buzzword, it's integral to their daily operations.🌱 Curious to see how they’re transforming everyday processes into sustainable solutions? We’ve got all the details in our blog! 👉 bit.ly/CircularityTours01 What are your thoughts on sustainable practices in hospitality? Share in the comments! The health of our oceans is vital to all life on Earth, influencing #climate and weather, sequestering #carbon, and providing food security and #livelihoods for people all over the globe. Yet, our oceans face critical threats from overfishing, climate change, and plastic pollution – threatening #biodiversity and human well-being. To protect this vital lifeforce, it’s clear that cross-collaboration is needed between the private and public sectors to enable meaningful, systemic change. At Resonance, we’re honored to work at the intersection of USAID and the private sector to help protect the world’s largest biome through our role as implementor in two flagship projects: -Investing in Fisheries Management: The USAID Ber-IKAN initiative in Indonesia is advancing sustainable fisheries, supporting local fishery businesses, and improving livelihoods for thousands dependent on these ecosystems. -Combating Plastic Pollution: The CIRCLE Alliance, a collaboration with Unilever, USAID, and EY, is addressing ocean plastic waste through SME business acceleration, policy development, and empowering women in the waste sector. These cross-sector initiatives are making waves in ocean conservation and are prominent examples of the power of partnerships. As part of our Blue Economy series, Resonance Technical Associate Katherine Labombarde published an article at the close of our Fish Right sustainable fisheries project in the Philippines to underscore important insights about the ways in which human well-being and equity are, and should be, at the the core of our partnership efforts. With a growing emphasis by USAID and other funders and catalyst organizations, human-centered localization approaches are not only critical to successful technical outcomes (and meaningful impact to communities and people), but are also paramount when environmental justice is an a central goal.
