St. Mary of the Assumption School

Yesterday, St. Mary’s wrapped up its 2024 Student Council Elections! We heard passionate speeches from students across grades six to eight. Students competed for president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and student representative positions. The atmosphere was lively and intelligent as students made their cases to their classmates. Those elected will serve their classmates through event planning, problem-solving, and communicating the thoughts and desires of the student body with school staff. We are excited for our students to experience working together to solve common problems and serve the common good of St. Mary of the Assumption School!

Meet Rachelle Bodden, our newly hired Infant Teacher! Ms. Rachelle is currently in school at Mass Boston completing her degree in Early Childhood Education. for the past few years, she has worked closely with children ages 3 months to 2.9 years. This experience has taught her how to teach and nurture children’s early development and foster a love for learning! As a teacher, she believes that every young child is a unique, capable learner, partnership with parents is essential for development, and cultural diversity should be respected. From and early age, Ms. Rachelle has made it her goal to be a teacher who allows students to grow and express themselves while learning. She recognizes that many students can grow independently in a rich learning environment, and others will need some support, and she will be there to provide any help they need as their teacher!

We have some exciting news! Our Infant-Toddler Classrooms are now open! Our infant program is open to students aged 3-15 months, and our toddler program is open to students aged 15 months- 2.9 years. Both of these programs are fully licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care. We prioritize a warm, responsive environment where each child can thrive. Our dedicated staff is trained to provide personalized care, fostering social, emotional, and cognitive development. Thank you Pear Bio!

Our 7th and 8th grade students were invited to Pear Bio Lab this week! Pear Bio clinical scientist team presented on cancer and how innovative technology can help doctors in treating cancer patients. Students visited the lab itself and learned all about Pear Bio’s cutting-edge biotechnology and the power of science and innovation in shaping the future of healthcare. A huge thank you to the Pear Bio team and ABI-LAB for your hospitality and welcome! The students and teachers left feeling inspired and more passionate about STEM education! In 6th grade Science last week, the students had their first lab! The Skittles Lab was an engaging and tasty way to put the steps of the Scientific Method into practice while reviewing sorting, graphing and data percentages!

It is with great honor to share that Dr. Miguel Cardona, U.S. Secretary of Education has announced that St. Mary of the Assumption School has been awarded National Blue Ribbon School 2024! National Blue Ribbon Schools (NBRS) is the official program name of the U.S. Department of Education that recognizes outstanding schools. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Every year the U. S. Department of Education seeks out and celebrates great American schools, schools demonstrating that all students can achieve to high levels. This year, 356 schools from all around the United States, 9 from Massachusetts, were rewarded the 2024 National Blue Ribbon School award. This award is a reflection of the dedication, hard work, and collaboration of our entire school community! We are so grateful to receive this honor as a school & we look forward to celebrating with our wider school community. We kicked off the celebration today with a viewing party of the announcement of the National Blue Ribbon School recipients. On Saturday we hosted our second annual 5K! This event was such a success despite the rain, and we are so grateful for all of our students, families, community members, and sponsors who came out to run the race! This event was a wonderful way to bring our community together! Congratulations to our winner Davio DeLuca with a time of 17:18! Congratulations to our female winner, who was second overall, Bailey Williams with a time of 18:37! Congrats to our student winners Max & Alexandria both finishing with a time of 25:08!
