Changing lives of at-risk people through service and faith.

About us

Founded in 1852, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul New Orleans was established with the mission of creating a network of friends, inspired by Gospel values, growing in holiness, and building a more just world through personal relationships with, and service to, people in need. Vincentian members throughout the Greater New Orleans area build connections with our neighbors in need, not only providing material assistance with rent, utilities, food, or clothing, but also offering friendship, understanding, and prayer. Because “no work of charity is foreign to the Society,” Vincentians respond to a variety of community and individual needs through disaster relief services, food pantries, work with incarcerated persons, medical services, and many others, always seeking long-term pathways out of poverty and towards the full flourishing of every person. SVdP Nola is also home to programs and special works like our Adult Learning Center, Thrift Store, and Nourishing Louisiana AmeriCorps VISTA program, which actively work toward equity and justice in New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana.

  • The celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a significant day for Catholics worldwide.  Celebrated on August 15th every year, it commemorates the belief that Mary, after completing her earthly life, was taken up body and soul into heaven by God. The dogma of the Assumption, declared by Pope Pius XII in 1950, affirms this belief as a truth revealed by God. The Assumption holds great importance because it signifies the unique and essential role of Mary in the work of salvation. Through her obedience and acceptance of God's plan, she became the mother of Jesus, the Redeemer of humankind. The Assumption also anticipates the resurrection of all believers and their eventual union with God in eternal glory. Mary's Assumption is seen as a preview of what awaits believers in the afterlife, inspiring hope and affirming the value of every human life. As Catholics, we celebrate this feast by honoring Mary's virtues and recognize her pivotal role in God's plan for humanity.

Meet Katrina, an AmeriCorps member in our program serving with St. Vincent de Paul New Orleans. In recognition of her more than 3,300 hours of service, she received the Gold President's Volunteer Service Award! As a small business owner, she had never heard of VISTA and didn't think the program was the right fit for her. She was encouraged by Natasha, her program director, to discover how VISTA could change her life and help those around her. Currently serving as a VISTA Leader in her third year of service, she is excited to continue making a difference in her community and use her non-competitive eligibility to kickstart her career. Join us in celebration of her dedication to #GetThingsDone and hear what she has to say about her service. #AmeriCorpsVISTA #AmeriCorps #Award #Leader #NewOrleans

It’s the end of summer—which means back to school-And the St. Vincent de Paul Vincentians are making sure local students are ready when the bell rings! The Our Lady of Prompt Succor SVdP conference in Westwego was able to purchase backpacks and school supplies for 28 children whose parents recently received assistance with utility bills. “We asked the parents to send in the school supply list for each child & was able to purchase all items on their list except headphones, graph paper and baby wipes, says conference treasurer Jennifer Tassin. “This was a huge undertaking since every teacher had specific items they required, down to the color of folders and specific brand names for pencils & markers. It also allowed the 15 families that was helped to use the money that they would have had to pay for these supplies towards the high cost of their utility bills. There are several school supply giveaways from other agencies, but SVdP at OLPS wanted theirs to be customized to each child's needs." It was through a generous community donation that the conference was able to help so many neighbors in need. Thank you to the community donor, and to president Pamela Billiot, treasurer Jennifer Tassin and our hard-working conference at OLPS Parish

  • THANK YOU to St. Francis Villa Executive Chef, Dwayne Hyman, who presented a check of $1,128 to the St. Matthew the Apostle St. Vincent de Paul Conference in June. The donation was made possible by the residents and volunteers who created a beautiful St. Joseph Altar and the chef who fed the attendees back in March. St. Francis Villa has a long relationship with St. Matthew the Apostle Parish; According to conference president Brian Comboy. “SMA celebrates a weekly Communion Service and a monthly mass at St. Francis Villa,” says Comboy. Chef Dwayne began the St. Joseph Altar at St. Francis Villa back in 2000. Residents and SMA parishioners worked with him to prepare the hundreds of cookies, breads, etc. meals were also prepared and served to all who visited the altar. The proceeds from the altar and all leftover food (made from donations) were sent to Ozanam Inn. (The leftover food is still donated to Ozanam Inn.) “When Ashleigh Holloway, Director of Marketing and Sales joined the team, the popularity of the Altar took off. The residents active in the altar preparations voted for the last two years to donate the money generated to the SMA conference.” Comboy adds. St. Francis Villa Assisted Living is a well-regarded facility in River Ridge, that has served East Jefferson parish and the New Orleans area for over twenty years.
