Today is Trigeminal Neuralgia Awareness Day! Trigeminal neuralgia (also called tic douloureux) is a condition that manifests as severe, unrelenting chronic facial pain. This condition can profoundly undermine a person's quality of life. Microvascular decompression surgery (MVD) may be an option for treatment. This surgery is for people in good health. The recovery period is 4 to 6 weeks. The surgeon makes an incision behind the ear to access the trigeminal nerve and blood vessels. The surgeon places a cushion of insulation around the blood vessel so that it does rub or push against the nerve. #tn #trigeminalneuralgia #trigeminalneuralgiaday #facialpain #facialpainawareness #neurosurgery #neurosurgeon #stanford #stanfordneurosurgery
