Pushing boundaries at the crossroads of art and science ⭐🎸 Home of the Stephen Hawking Medal 🏅 Next stop... La Palma
About us
Created by Garik Israelian PhD, astrophysicist at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC) and Sir Brian May PhD, astrophysicist and the lead guitarist of the iconic rock band Queen, Starmus is considered the most ambitious festival of science, art and music that gathers together astronauts, cosmonauts, Nobel Prize winners and prominent figures from various scientific disciplines and musical backgrounds. Starmus has hosted several Apollo astronauts among them Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Alexei Leonov, and Victor Gorbatko. World-known scientists, 30+ Nobel prize winners and space explorers have shared their science from the Starmus stage, among them Stephen Hawking, May-Britt Moser, Emmanuelle Charpentier, Kip Thorne, Elizabeth Blackburn, Donna Strickland, Jill Tarter, Kip Thorne, Robert Wilson, Michel Mayor, Eduard Moser, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Richard Dawkins, Brian Cox, Tony Fadell, and many other giants of science. Stephen Hawking and Alexei Leonov, together with Starmus co-founders -Garik Israelian and Brian May-, worked to create the Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication, awarded to individuals and teams who have made significant contributions to science communication. Previous Stephen Hawking Medal winners include Jane Goodall, Elon Musk, Jean-Michel Jarre, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Hans Zimmer, and The Particle Fever documentary.

🔭 Do you know this incredible woman? Meet Jocelyn Bell, the scientist who discovered pulsars in 1967, a groundbreaking find that revealed neutron stars and validated general relativity. Despite being overlooked by the Nobel Prize in 1974—when her supervisors received the award instead—her legacy continues to inspire. With numerous accolades to her name, Bell used her $3 million Breakthrough Prize to support women and minorities in physics, ensuring a brighter future for science and equality. #JocelynBell #WomenInSTEM #Pulsars #DiversityInScience

Imagine a future where capitalism doesn't contribute to climate change, but rather helps to solve it. Nat Keohane's closing remarks draw a future where our planet thrives, powered by clean energy and innovative solutions. A world where carbon is stored, not emitted; where forests are valued more alive than dead. Join the economist and director of the Center for Climate Change and Energy Solutions as he describes such a future for the crowd at Starmus VII. #climatechange #energy #capitalismforclimate #capitalism

"Global warming" can be a misleading term. What if we call it "global weirding instead? Katharine Hayhoe, a renowned climate scientist and communicator, has dedicated her career to understanding how our world’s weather patterns are becoming increasingly unpredictable and extreme. Through her groundbreaking research and engaging talks, she sheds light on the changes we’re witnessing—from longer, more severe heatwaves to intensifying hurricanes and shifting rainfall patterns. These phenomena should be described as global weirding, rather than global warming, since weather patterns are just becoming more unpredictable. #WeatherPatterns #GlobalWarming #ClimateAction #StarmusVII #globalweirding
