Happy First Friday of September! Greetings everyone, and happy First Friday of National Recovery Month! I am honored to be joined today to Kirk Johnson, Lifeline Coordinator. The Lifeline Peer Project is comprised of a group of ten people across the state of Tennessee who are all in long-term recovery and all certified Peer Recovery Specialists. This group of dedicated individuals are connectors; as Kirk tells us, "the opposite of addiction is connection." The Lifeline Peer Project connects those struggling with mental health or addiction issues to community resources. Kirk has been working as a Lifeline Coordinator since 2014, and joined the STARS family in April 2024. We are so grateful to have Kirk and his team because of the opportunities Lifeline brings for people to get better, to connect, to not have to suffer through addiction alone, and to know that help is available. This September, National Recovery Month, we want to celebrate the necessity of recovery. Everyone deserves the opportunity to get better. With gratitude, Rodger Dinwiddie, STARS CEO

To help young people pursue their unlimited potential by providing hope, health, and connection.
About us
STARS is a nonprofit organization that supports young people through the social and emotional barriers they face. We have five school and community programs on issues like bullying, substance misuse, and violence. The programs focus on prevention, intervention, treatment, and training. • For example, we have school-based services throughout Middle Tennessee, • We offer bullying-prevention training, • A clinical drug-misuse treatment program for teenagers, • Services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, and • We even use puppets to educate elementary students about challenges and important issues. Our mission is to support young people in overcoming social and emotional barriers through creative and innovative programs centering on prevention, intervention, treatment, training, and compassion.
