Her business is more than just a design agency, it’s a global collective of female creatives obsessed with bringing their clients’ dreams to life. “Paz,” as in peace in Spanish, which is also her abuela’s last name. She writes on their website: “Pixel Paz is an homage to [my grandmother] — and to my family. It’s also how I approach everything I do: peacefully, with a deep respect for my roots.” Not only a first-generation Mexican-American entrepreneur, Marissa was a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer. Everything she does is rooted in helping women, elevating not only their voices but also their business. Marissa does not operate her business in isolation, she works with incredible BIPOC women like illustrator Aïsha Piquer Planella, who brings a unique, emotional perspective to her craft. Fifteen Percent Pledge is currently receiving applications for their third Achievement Award grant. In partnership with Shop with Google, this transformative racial equity and economic justice non-profit organization will provide $250K in grant funding to three Black-owned businesses. To be eligible, applicants must: 🌱 Member of the Fifteen Percent Pledge Business Equity Community 🖥 E-commerce business with a minimum annual revenue of $100K 💗 Black-owned: At least one self-identifying Black person with 50% or more equity in the company 🕺🏾Has between 2-15 employees, including the founder 🛍 Has a presence on Google Shopping The winner of the Achievement Award will receive mentoring and pro-bono consulting services from industry leaders in addition to their $200K grant funding. First runner-up will receive $35K and the second runner up will receive $15K. All awardees will receive complimentary tickets to our 2025 Gala. Deadline is October 16, 2024. FYI to California businesses: The Governor of California has signed the Commercial Tenant Protection Act (Senate Bill 1103), authored by Senator Caroline Menjivar, into state law. Pulled from the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights' press release: The bill delivers first-in-the-nation commercial protections to safeguard the smallest businesses and nonprofits from displacement. The bill provides commonsense leasing standards that bring clarity and stability to both business owners and landlords alike. It also expands language access for commercial leases, reducing a critical barrier that has historically harmed immigrant entrepreneurs. The bill was co-sponsored by six organizations across California: Small Business Majority, Public Counsel, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, Inclusive Action for the City, CAMEO Network, and Bet Tzedek Legal Services. https://lnkd.in/dQ_fedyp
