Using our narrative map, we are able to capture not only what narratives the media is covering, but more importantly, those that are correlated with and driving market returns. This framework showed that at the start of October, US equity market returns were still driven by labor market and US growth news over and above news on the election. However, in addition to US macro news, the evolving narrative on international conflict is now driving markets again for the first time since April, while the Chinese growth narrative is also becoming more important. #STTInsights
