Humans are hard wired to problem solve. The issue is that we tend to do that through our own lens - immediately pulling the problem back to our own world view - which gives the other side the implicit idea that we aren't really listening to them. That's the problem with autobiographical listening. If we immediately relate the idea to our own lives and try to forge ahead, we may be missing a key part of the puzzle. The other side is a unique individual, just like you.
